New Surgeon General Advisory on screen use for kids was released, which details the harms that it can cause. The science is more nuanced than just harm. Here is what the science says about screens and social media use in young people, @Forbes forbes.com/sites/omerawan…

CDC institutes a travel ban for countries where the Ebola outbreak is occurring. Travel bans are NOT evidence based public health measures that reduce the spread of infectious diseases and in some cases make it worse. What does work- Screening at airports and contact tracing

As a physician, one of the most misunderstood facts about measles — it can reset immune memory— a phenomenon called immune amnesia. Meaning your body may lose protection against past infections. Quick explainer here

@akh_co @vooforlife @ErinBurnett I’ve read the paper, read my comment. If you don’t understand happy to explain it to you offline. I can assure you for all that test positive in current Andes outbreak, 40 percent will not die

Spoke to the only American who tested positive for hantavirus (he’s in biocontainment unit). Of significant note: He & others on ship had illness w/night sweats, chills, & fatigue (fatigue lasted 2.5wks) after interacting only socially w/patient zero.

@akh_co @vooforlife @ErinBurnett There’s a difference between case fatality rate and infection fatality rate. The NEJM paper tracked only 17 patients, all were sick. Many with hantavirus aren’t even diagnosed because they may perceive it as a typical viral infection. For all infections fatality rate is lower

@ErinBurnett Difficult to know if those symptoms were really a manifestation of the Andes virus or the presence of a separate viral illness prior to getting the Andes virus. Of course real life never matches textbook presentations. Our understanding is evolving @ErinBurnett

@vooforlife @ErinBurnett The 30 to 50 percent death rate only applies to those whose symptoms get to the lungs, an important nuanced point not spoken about enough

@ErinBurnett Hi Erin, love your show. If all the passengers had Hantavirus, shouldn’t a handful of them be dead if the death rate is at 30%?
