I’m in favor of raising teacher pay. But I’m unclear how this will “fix” education: is it that teachers are not working hard but will for a raise? Or that higher salaries will lure capable people from law, medicine, tech, etc.?

Customers go home and explain to their kids why mum was crying. Panjshiri understood the arrangement best of all, which is why he could not be bothered to show up to court.

We are aware of a highly defammatory post by Stephen Lennon, aka Tommy Robinson, against @hopenothate. He has now removed the post, but not before over 1,300 liked it and numerous people made very threatening and violent comments. This matter is now with our lawyers. I’ve heard anecdotally that asylum approvals dropping but removals haven’t increased proportionally. Have to be careful not to conflate partial 2026 YTD stats with a different full year report

@Awls7k @Kevin_Maguire All indicators are falling including small boats, asylum applications/approvals and visa applications. While emigration numbers are flat the end of a large number of temp visas will add to the continuing net fall. The trend is clear and that is a result of cumulative policies.

At the General Election we pledged to bring down net migration. Following reforms in our Immigration White Paper last Spring, it has now fallen 82% from the peak under the Tories. We promised a fair, controlled and managed migration system, and that is what we are delivering.

NEW: Net migration has fallen to 171,000 in 2025- lowest level since 2021 and covid pandemic. Down from 944,000 peak in 2022-23. Use of asylum hotels down by a third since peak.
