@Radshyguy Yeah I think that’s an apt way to put it. I think it’s a case of creators having to change/water themselves down to keep up with youtubes constant desire for ad friendliness. Inciting creators to make scheduled programming inadvertently helped people like that “win” in the end.

I think this video is interesting because it’s indicative of how the landscape of YouTube and the concept of being a YouTuber, whether or not we like to admit it, has dramatically shifted to the archetype this song was meant to poke fun at: ego-driven, solipsistic, algoslop

It’s weird to think about, but YouTube and the YouTube algorithm has pushed YouTubers to adopt that “fuck everyone else, I’m gonna make my bag” grindset attitude. YouTube is a business now, a marketplace that incites competition, hinders collaboration. A dog-eat-dog environment.

Before Nashville, Gener & Deaner cut pre-album demos in 1995. "Bad Day in Brownsville" never went south with them. We pulled the reel from the vault, uncovering other mystery tracks. There's no notes on them, but they rip. There’s a whole lot more tape where this came from.
