The fact that the Epic of Gilgamesh contains a flood story is actually one reason historians don't view Genesis as a unique eyewitness account. It suggests flood narratives circulated through older Mesopotamian traditions and were adapted by different cultures over time. "Many cultures have flood myths" is evidence that floods deeply affected ancient humans. It is not automatic proof that one single worldwide flood happened exactly as one later religious text describes it. By that logic, since dragons appear in cultures across the world too, paleontologists should probably start looking for fire-breathing fossils. Clown 😂

The apostles wouldn’t know how to worship jn any other way. Everything about Orthodox worship is in continuity with Old Testament worship in the tabernacle

After listening to an old Jimbob episode, it really hit me: most Protestants — especially Southern Baptists — have been thoroughly brainwashed about the true story of the Church. We were taught the early Church was basically independent Bible-only house churches that looked just like a modern SBC congregation… until Constantine came along and “invented” Catholicism. Then the Reformation supposedly recovered the real faith. Reality check: the first centuries had bishops in apostolic succession, the Real Presence in the Eucharist, infant baptism, veneration of saints, ancient liturgy, and the Church authoritatively defining the canon of Scripture. Read the Church Fathers — Ignatius, Irenaeus, Justin Martyr, Cyril of Jerusalem. It doesn’t look like a Texas Baptist church. It looks Orthodox. I grew up Southern Baptist. I bought the revisionist history that skips 1,500 years to sell the Reformation as a “return” instead of a break from the historic Church. If you’re still there, read the primary sources yourself. It’s uncomfortable. It was for me too. But truth matters more. I eventually became Orthodox. Best decision I ever made. What’s one thing in early Church history that surprised or shocked you when you studied it unfiltered?

The verb is only ever applied to God and the meaning is to author into existence, never used as allowance or permissive. It always means create, as when used in "God created the heavens and the earth".
