30 years ago today I married the love of my life.

Wealthy people use philanthropy and charity generally for tax breaks, image laundering, and building networks with powerful politicians who can open doors for their businesses. You see how individuals do this “charity work” with an agenda in mind, that is how governments do with aid. The EU, U.S. and U.K. all have aid money tied to one thing or the other. There is no free money anywhere. And nobody loves you that much to come save you from your own misery. This is politics. Everyone is out here for themselves. Geopolitics is driven by national interests, power, and geography. Countries act to secure survival, economic wealth, and strategic advantage. Nobody is coming to save you. They’re not promoting a certain style of government because it will help you get your acts together. They don’t care if your acts are together, except it serves their interests. Interests! That is all that matters.

Please, read books. Not just captions, or carousel posts, or what made it to the top of your feed. Read books. Long ones. Complex ones. You cannot build a mind with weight on the back of social media ephemerals. Intellectual depth demands patience.

Yeah, basic interaction. Two years ago, I made this point in my thread on Naija women lacking conversational skills—I still enjoy referring to it 😀—and I had a multitude of fools saying, "Talk to girls that like you." I'm like... what has that got to do with dating? Ironically, a big part of my point was that the social ineptitude I was describing lay in assuming every interaction between a man and a woman must be about sex or romance. I don't know whether they never actually read the thread or they were simply too eager to score points. Either way, by taking that approach, they ended up proving my point. A while later, my pictures started trending, with girls quoting them to announce that I was ugly. The funny part? Every one I replied to blocked me. Including the older ladies here who are often gassed up and preach about civility. (I mean, we know it's all for show). It was beautiful though. It gave me the licence to fully embrace the condescending asshole I can be. If you're a relatively intelligent or confident young man in that country and you're not rich, you're basically on a cruise. You can't afford to create buffers between yourself and the average person, so you're exposed to every kind of foolishness. If you're not careful, it will make you resentful. And you may die miserably. My air of condescension is actually how I get by easily. I just assume the role of a colonial scientist observing a strange civilisation. It makes me more patient than angry. Let me go and fetch my pipe.

Africa is not being underestimated by anyone. That is a dangerous misconception that I once had. What is actually happening is that Africa is being deliberately underreported and suppressed from mainstream global news cycles because some powerful people need to keep it a secret that their dominance over the global economy as we know it is entirely built on extracting 100 for the price of 0.5 from Africa. If that coup in Niger had never happened for example, we would never have known that France's famously cheap and plentiful nuclear energy which makes up 70% of its energy mix, and which it sells to the rest of Europe, was cheap and plentiful because Orano spent decades bending Niger over a barrel, paying the country 50 euro cents/kg for Yellowcake uranium when the market price was between €150 and €200/kg. We didn't know this - but France and its EU collaborators absolutely did, which is why they're sponsoring EU resolutions condemning the AES every 5 minutes. They know exactly what they've lost! The only people underestimating Africa are Africans - because we have no fucking clue what we are sitting on and we still get most of our information from predatory western sources. Don't get it twisted - everybody outside Africa who matters fully understands what Africa is, which is why Ethiopian Airlines keeps recording a new record profit every year, and it is building the world's largest airport in Bishoftu. Most of that traffic is not made up of Africans. People from around the world don't stampede in such numbers into a continent that they "underestimate." We're the dummies chasing visas to go work for gold elsewhere while we inherited the entire fucking gold mine.

Someone must educate Nigerians on this reality. Most don’t view themselves as 'too special' — they feel 'too irrelevant' to be targeted. They take pride in being loud and obnoxious about trivial, disconnected or meaningless issues.

That tedium disappears even in moments when you seemingly have nothing to do, because in truth, even when your are not physcially doing anything, your mind is on overdrive; digesting the events of the day, thinking about the last chapter you read, connecting ideas, planning, solving problems, self reflecting, theorising, and philosophising It is in those moments, meta cognition often occurs It is those moment genuises are made It is in those moments the seeds of innovation sprout And it is in those moments the brightest bulbs in your head light up. So moments of 'doing nothing' go from being boring to being cognitively fertile, and ironically become some of the most productive hours of your day. As a result you not only hope for more of those moments, you optimise your life for them. You cut out the noise, move to a quieter neighbourhood, turn off the tv, keep the phones away, close the laptop and reduce non essential communication because you now realise how valuable uninterrupted thought is to you. Only downside being you then, suddenly realise 24 hours is not enough...
