Eight years as a senior data analyst in Nigeria 🇳🇬
Landed in Canada 🇨🇦 and spent months getting rejected for customer service jobs. Apple Store. Call centres. Everything.
Then I walked into a cold calling interview. Loud music. Phones everywhere. They handed me a script.
Made my first cold call. The lady heard my accent and ended the call immediately.😭 (God abeg x 3)
I kept going. Got through the day and got the job offer on the spot.
35k a year. Five days in office. 8am starts.
I asked if that was the best they could do.
He said yes.
I took the offer letter home. Showed my wife.
She looked me in the eye and said that was below me.
That week I stopped applying sideways and went back to data.
Three months later I was hired as lead analyst in a Fortune 500 company.
Nigerian professionals living abroad, what was the moment that made you realize you needed to stop chasing survival jobs?
English

@SolaTheAnalyst This is my third year in Canada I'm still trying to navigate it. I need help sincerely
English

@IamJustNneka @SolaTheAnalyst If you have the POF according to IRCC , yes it will take you for 6 months if you manage very well.
Imagined 19k for a family of 2
2000 total expenses on house (just maybe) = 12k in 6months and you’ll either reduce your rent or bring food from Nigeria atleast to help reduce exps
English

@SolaTheAnalyst I didn’t chase survival jobs from day 1.
In my case though I landed as a PR with my POF so I was able to focus on getting a job in the industry I left in Nigeria.
Got one 3 months later.

Cancer is a silent thief, but it leaves clues.
It’s hard to wrap our heads around the loss of a light like Alex Ekubo. It’s a reminder that this is a conversation we must continue to have.
If this video prompts even one person to check a symptom or schedule a screening, then the message has done its job.
Please, watch this, and don’t forget to share it with everyone you know.
