Not all AI hallucinations happen inside computers apparently. She invented a whole new MIT faculty just to put it on LinkedIn 🐍 MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) does not offer a Doctor of Business Administration. It never has. It offers PhDs. It offers MBAs through Sloan. Zero DBAs. Ever. catalog.mit.edu/schools/engine… Sri Lanka has a serious problem with fake academic credentials in professional, political and consulting spaces. This is exactly what it looks like. Call it out every time you see it.

WTF is this? How the hell is $2.5M "catastrophic" for Sri Lanka?! Have you looked at our budget?? Terrible that we f'ed it up but its tiny. And who the hell is this person to give this verdict? island.lk/mit-expert-war…

Sri Lanka's private bus sector is embracing electric buses to tackle its crisis and stay competitive ⚡🚍 ⚡Following the government’s push for electric buses, Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Chairman has stated that transitioning to e-buses is the sustainable solution to rising costs, poor diesel quality, and financial struggles. ⚡A new MoU with Amcot Corp will introduce 100 luxury solar-charged e-buses (starting on the Horana–Colombo route), with plans for local manufacturing in Horana. ⚡This builds positive momentum on government and UNDP-backed e-bus initiatives for cleaner, more efficient public transport. #SriLanka #CleanEnergy

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association has alleged that Rs. 7 billion in public funds are being wasted on the government’s new Metro Bus initiative. Chairman of the Association, Gamunu Wijeratne, charged that the Metro Bus scheme is implemented by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) under another name and warned it would further erode the country’s passenger transport system. “It is because of the SLTB that passenger transport in Sri Lanka was destroyed. Now, by introducing Metro buses, this government is doing the same again. This is how the Treasury is being wiped out. This is a national crime,” Wijeratne said. He argued that the new buses will not address systemic inefficiencies in public transport, but instead replicate past failures while draining taxpayer money. (Newswire)

Did the Sooriyapperuma & AKD elevate under-qualified, inexperienced party loyalists to the External Resource Department/ PDMO? We need to know the work experience of the officers implicated in the $2.5 Mn fraud, were they career civil servants from Treasury or related dept?

The government is considering stricter controls on children’s use of digital devices and social media, citing a rise in exploitation, addiction and behavioural issues linked to unsupervised access, Women and Child Affairs Minister Saroja Savithri Paulraj said. She said authorities are deliberating potential restrictions, including limiting mobile device use among young children and banning social media access for minors. A special committee chaired by the Prime Minister, Harini Amarasuriya, has been appointed to formulate policy recommendations on child safety in the digital space. She said proposals have now been recommended to prohibit children under the age of five from accessing digital screens and to ban social media use for those under 12. The minister said the measures are being considered in response to increasing risks associated with digital technology and to ensure safer environments for children. (Newswire)

@gayaradesilva It would also mean, the area is poor and more people in a family has to work to run it. Colombo is where the money is and it makes sense why it's low.

Sri Lanka is aging - and that’s a lot more expensive than a young population 😅 Almost 50% dependency ratio means for every 100 working age people, there are about 50 dependents (children + elderly). That means more pressure on public healthcare and social spending - and a heavier burden on those who are actually paying (taxes).
Newswire Plus@newswireplus

Sri Lanka’s dependency ratio stood at 49.8% in 2024 📊, reflecting the share of dependents — those under 15 and over 65 — compared to the working-age population.

@sonaljay8 @Chathurangaab Reduction of the VAT Threshold from Rs 60 million to 36 million will also be a huge blow for SMEs in the tourism sector. Most of the VAT is not recoverable compared to other industries. We already pay 10% service charge, and 15 to 20 % Commision to OTAs and travel agents,

The government should really re-think the VAT implementation on digital goods. For SME’s that operate in the digital space that’s an 18% increase in operating costs on software and tools. It’s also not a cost that can be passed on to clients. @Chathurangaab if the government wants to support SMEs and push for digitization this is not the path.
