17 years ago, hundreds of Metropolitan Police officers were deployed to beat back British Tamil families who were demanding an end to the genocide. Police officers used batons to assault and drag protestors, including women and the elderly, in the heart of central London. Despite the brutality, the police could not stop the protests. Tamils refused to stop demonstrating. For 72 days and nights, Parliament Square was filled with chants and placards, as well as protestors and mourners. A hunger strike was underway. One man jumped in the Thames. Another set himself on fire. All to demand an end to the massacres. The British government did not listen. Instead, they spent over £10 million on the Metropolitan Police operation. Never forget.
