4/5 Salavati has also been one of the regime's primary tools for hostage diplomacy, presiding over the sham trials and sentencing of American and Western citizens. These individuals are often detained on fabricated espionage charges to be used as political bargaining chips by Tehran.

3/5 The precedent for today's fast-tracked executions was set by Salavati in 2022. He issued the death warrant for Mohsen Shekari (23), the first protester to be executed during the uprising triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini. Shekari was hanged just 2.5 months after his arrest following a sham trial.

2/5 Salavati previously sentenced political prisoner Mohammad Ghobadlou to death on charges of "Corruption on Earth." Despite widespread international pleas, Ghobadlou was executed on January 23, 2024.
