For Ethereum to make good on its promise to create a free and open society, privacy must be a core tenet of its future, say @Zac_Aztec and @samonchain. Opinion. #Ethereumat10 trib.al/cP3MyYN

Programmable privacy is in our DNA.

It’s hard for most people to feel optimistic about tech, let alone Web3, when the most popular consumer products are vying for their attention – a value suck rather than a real value creation. People want to be productive. People want to create art, have experiences, and spend time with loved ones. We used to log on to connect with like-minded people and talk about things that interested us, share our knowledge and obsessions without any notion of monetization. The internet helped us be productive in a quintessentially human way. Technology is meant to be a tool, not a lifestyle. People don’t want to waste hours on platforms that profit on their attention, yet companies keep building products that compete for smaller and smaller pieces of that 24-hour pie. Both web2 and Web3 platforms are guilty of this in the forms of algorithm-pleasing content, click bait, and gambling. In order to achieve post-scarcity abundance, we have to create meaningful economic value first. I believe we’re doing that at @aztecnetwork by making privacy composable and programmable. Having secure control of all components of one’s identity means that we can have better, trusted interactions on the internet again. We can have the internet we want: one reminiscent of the past, instead of one from a dystopian future.
