Here is what Mark Ziegler of the UT wrote: “Are Taj DeGourville or BJ Davis expendable, given Dutcher’s effusive comments about San Jose State transfer Latrell Davis, who sat out as a redshirt this season and often was the best player on the floor at practice? “I think if we had him and played him this year, we’d be in the NCAA Tournament,” Dutcher said of the 6-foot-3 English guard who is equally proficient shooting the 3 or getting to the rim. “He’s extremely talented, and he has a skill set that some of the players I had on the team didn’t have this year. “I think he’ll have a chance to be a first-team all-conference type player.”

Coach Brian Dutcher just said that the Aztecs would have been an NCAA Tournament team had Lattrell Davis not redshirted this season based on how he practiced this season… Adding he had skills that his teams could have used this season.

Dutcher said a majority of his players like it here and want to stay but will others schools want to pay them more? That’s the question he can’t answer.

@OceansideAztec He decided early to redshirt him based on the roster. Once middle of season tough to pull him out and lose a year of eligibility.

Five teams from the @MountainWest will play in the NIT. UNM, CSU, Nevada, UNLV and Wyoming all are in. The Aztecs declined invitations to all postseason tournaments.

Postseason play for @Aztec_WBB! The Aztecs were invited to play in the WBIT. The Aztecs will host UC Irvine Thursday 6 p.m. at USD’s Jenny Craig Pavilion. Viejas Arena is unavailable due to hosting the first two rounds of the men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Most obvious reasons Aztecs didn’t make it? Home loss to Troy in double OT and home loss to Grand Canyon. Win just one of those and likely in.

Aztecs miss the tournament for the first time since 2019 (not counting the covid year). Just the fourth miss since 2010, just the second miss in the Dutcher era and the 11th miss since 2000. It’s been a nice run, time to start another next season.

@MountainWest with just one team in the bracket since 2016. It had averaged three in each season since.

That will do it. Last 4 in Texas, NC St, Miami Ohio, SMU. Miami was last team in. Interesting to see how far the Aztecs were from a spot. Just the fourth time in 16 years Aztecs miss the tourney.
