I once read that men barely get compliments... so I thought I’d try being kind in a harmless way. At a bookstore, I told a guy, “Hey, that book you picked is really good, you’ve got great taste.” He lit up instantly, smiled way too long, and started walking beside me… asking what I was doing, where I was going, if we could grab coffee. I kept it polite at first, then shorter, then silent.. but he didn’t take the hint. I had to pretend to get a phone call and rush out, leaving my own shopping behind. It wasn’t a compliment anymore.
