The competition will move from four leagues to three leagues of 18 teams. Each league will be split into three groups of six, with nations playing six matches against six different opponents rather than traditional home-and-away group fixtures. League C will operate slightly differently, featuring one group of seven teams to ensure all 55 UEFA nations can be accommodated. Those fixtures will begin one international window earlier than the rest of the competition. One of the biggest changes is that Europe’s top-ranked nations will no longer face the lowest-ranked sides in men’s European qualification pathways. New structure: • League 1: Top 36 nations split into three groups of 12, playing six matches against six different countries. The highest-ranked teams qualify automatically for major tournaments. • Remaining sides drop into League 2, where nations can still qualify through the play-off system. The quarter-finals, Final Four and promotion/relegation play-offs will remain in place. UEFA are expected to finalise the finer details over the coming months before the format is officially approved at the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in September.
