During her long career at NASA as an aerospace engineer, Dr. Christine Darden wrote a computer program to model sonic booms—the shockwaves made by planes when they travel faster than sound. ​Her work focused on decreasing sonic booms, and it has been used extensively by the aerospace industry in aircraft designs to develop faster aerial vehicles that minimize noise pollution and environmental disturbance. ​#BlackHistoryMonth

She invented a feeding device that allowed disabled veterans to feed themselves. It has been cited over 20 times in other patents. Before the Pap smear became the globally standard medical practice that it is today, Dr.Chinn provided Papanicolaou with the patient samples and data required to validate the test's accuracy. Furthermore, Dr. Chinn pioneered the practice of testing asymptomatic women, helping to establish the Pap smear as a preventative measure rather than a last resort.
