It’s never been more difficult to contact people inside Iran, with the internet outage and threats by the authorities. But today I woke up to several messages from those inside about what they thought of Trump’s threat to attack Iran’s electricity infrastructure.

I'm being asked by many users how they can verify images and videos of the conflict in the Middle East, including many fakes that are going viral. This is a thread I wrote exactly three years ago with a step-by-step guide on verifying online images that anyone can learn to do.
Shayan Sardarizadeh@Shayan86

THREAD: How to verify images online? Social media is awash with false or misleading images, some of which get millions of engagements. So, here's a simple guide on ways you can quickly check the veracity of an image you see on your social media feeds.

@SaulStaniforth That's obviously not the point I was making. Of course the history is deeply complex and did not start on October 7th. I was simply pointing out differences between the two conflicts - in response to a question about the differing international reactions to them them both.

Joe Inwood, BBC World Correspondent: "On the comparison with Russia.. it is worth pointing out Israel was responding to a direct attack on its territory before it carried out its attacks.. whereas Russia was invading a sovereign neighbour" Because it began on Oct 7th, right Joe?

Well this week has been quite an experience, detained by Turkish police while covering the anti-government protests and deported. Here’s my full story. Do take a read if you can - and thank you to everyone for kind messages and support: bbc.com/news/articles/…

📣 Some news about me: Yesterday (Wednesday) I was detained by police in Istanbul, held for 17 hours and then deported from Turkey to the UK. Told I was “a threat to public order”. In the country I lived in - and love. Journalism is not a crime. Here’s the BBC’s statement:

@mikeroscoe67 @BBCBreakfast The point I was making was in comparison to the utterly chaotic scenes at the other hand-over. Was certainly not intending to make any value judgement.

On this morning's @BBCBreakfast, I was shocked to hear BBC journalist @BBCJoeInwood describe the appalling scenes at Agam's handover as "well-handled" and "organised". You sometimes wonder quite how other people can perceive things so differently to yourself.
Kosher@koshercockney

My heart. Bless Agam Berger Sickening. Forced to pose for photos smiling, given a “certificate” for being a hostage. I’m so happy she is free but this propaganda makes me sick. It shows how truly depraved Hamas are. Don’t forget what they did to her

@BBCWorld @BBCJoeInwood I too was on another boat that almost sank in the Red Sea. There was a coverup, the captain didn’t call the emergency services they waited for one of their own boats to rescue us. They even covered the name of the boat so know one would know what boat it was!

Great piece by @BBCJoeInwood about the Egyptian dive vessel that sank in the Red Sea on 25 November last year, which claimed 11 lives. This is the story of the people who were there, faced death and survived. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

These scenes from Syria’s notorious Sednaya Prison will haunt the world, and there’s still many more levels, hidden cells and torture rooms being uncovered. Many traumatised prisoners being freed, including women and children.

Wonderful to see my good friend and BBC colleague, Lina Sinjab, reporting from the streets of her own city after years of exile. Revolutions are enthralling, heady things. What happens afterwards is sometimes less good. We can only hope.
