Today in 2018, @FegesBBQ opens its first location, in Greenway Plaza.

"The Pig," a barbecue place in Harlingen, 1943. At that time it was located at 704 Commerce St. in Harlingen. I read one account that said that it was where Garcia's Lounge is now, but Garcia's is at 535 Commerce Street, which would put The Pig a block or two away and on the other side of the street --- assuming the street numbering system in Harlingen hasn't changed. But numbering systems DO change over time, so I can't really say anything with certainty other than, when The Pig was an active business, it was at 704 Commerce. In any case, it's a splendid photo, don't y'all think? Russell Lee photographed it a few years before, so its visual impact must have been appealing to photographers. Don't you imagine they made a mean pork sandwich?

6 year anniversary of one our Miatas giving up its life to keep our son's going. Survived getting pit maneuvered by a semi then a full speed rear end while it was disabled on the freeway.

Cut some "boneless county ribs" into cubes yesterday for brining them in a maple bacon brine this week. Hoping they come out well

@ChetTripper Have you tried the Low and Slow brand? Real smoke, and they have a Texas Queso flavored puff. Super addicting!

In the tiny town of Flatonia, Casey Lees BBQ is putting out some great BBQ. Our tray this weekend: Pork ribs, jalapeno cheese sausage, Heartbrand Akaushi Wagyu tri-tip, direct heat chicken, pork belly fried rice, and honey lime cashew cole slaw.
