Our series on all the great things the Bethesda Urban Partnership does for the Bethesda Urban District and community, PART1: Operations & Funding Established by Montgomery County in 1994, Bethesda Urban Partnership, Inc. (BUP) is a downtown management organization that maintains and markets downtown Bethesda. The organization was developed to promote downtown Bethesda as a desirable place to live, work and visit as well as foster a community that features restaurants, retailers, arts venues and more. The BUP team includes more than 30 employees working in marketing, maintenance, mobility and administration who produce cultural events and community festivals and attend to landscaping and maintenance needs. BUP also manages Bethesda Transportation Solutions (BTS) bethesdatransit.org, the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District bethesda.org/arts-entertain…, and the Bethesda Circulator bethesda.org/bethesda-circu… as well as the non-profit art spaces, Gallery B bethesda.org/gallery-b/, Studio B bethesda.org/studio-b/ and the Triangle Art Studios bethesda.org/triangle-art-s… . BUP is operated by an 11-member Board of Directors comprising residents, businesses and developers appointed by the County Executive. The organization is funded primarily by revenue generated from the Bethesda Parking Lot District fees, in addition to the commercial Urban District property tax. Private sponsors partner with BUP on events such as Taste of Bethesda bethesda.org/taste-of-bethe… and the Bethesda Fine Arts Festival bethesda.org/bethesda-fine-… . @NourishBethesda @BethesdaCares @bethesda_today @BethesdaUP @BethesdaRow @Bethesda

A Note of Gratitude to Those Who Make Every Day Better Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of serving in many roles—from working at a plant nursery as a teenager, to serving as a zoning inspector, a land use principal with an engineering firm, Kensington’s mayor, Maryland’s Deputy Secretary of State, a fitness center owner, the County Executive’s Master Plan Ombudsman, and even a dog walker (yes, I had a dog-walking business!). But of all these experiences, being the Director of B-CC Regional Services is the role I truly love. Every day brings new opportunities to solve problems, help people, and make life a little easier for our community. What does Regional Services do? If there’s a pothole that hasn’t been filled or your street was missed by snow plows, we’re here to help. If someone in your family needs mental health services, shelter, or food, we can connect you to resources. If you’re struggling to get a response from a government department, reach out to us. Our focus spans Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Garrett Park, Rockville, and beyond. We serve as an extension of County Government, working with municipal, state, and federal agencies to enhance services for you. B-CC Regional Services partners with over a dozen boards, committees, and commissions, and oversees two urban districts (Bethesda and Friendship Heights) and one special district (Pike District/North Bethesda). We also collaborate with numerous nonprofits, and I am deeply grateful for their support. Recognizing Our Partners and Organizations: • The B-CC Staff: Lynn Barclay (volunteer newsletter editor), Thomas “T.J.” Dant (community projects manager), and Brandan Stuckey (urban district manager) are the backbone of our team, delivering outstanding service with dedication and professionalism. • Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board: Volunteers who serve as the eyes and ears of the community, addressing issues from transportation to public safety. • Bethesda Urban Partnership: For keeping Bethesda vibrant, beautiful, and full of events. Special thanks to the Bethesda Arts and Entertainment Board for their creative contributions. • Pike District Partnership: Leading the charge on North Bethesda’s ten-year improvement plan with ambitious marketing and engagement efforts. • Friendship Heights Alliance: In a very short time span, this team has transformed Friendship Heights with fresh ideas, events, and business support. • Public Safety Teams: Police Districts 1 and 2, Rockville City Police, Chevy Chase Village Police, and our fire and rescue personnel—both career and volunteer—who protect us every day. • The Three Chambers: Montgomery County, Rockville, and Greater Bethesda Chambers of Commerce for driving economic success and supporting local businesses. • Municipal Partners: Town of Chevy Chase, Chevy Chase Village, Sections 3 and 5, Drummond, Friendship Heights, Garrett Park, Glen Echo, North Chevy Chase, Oakmont, Martin’s Addition, Rockville, and Somerset for their collaboration and commitment. • County Leadership: Our County Executive and County Council members, past and present, for their unwavering support and guidance. • County Directors and Colleagues: Thank you for your cooperation and steadfast backing. With sincere appreciation, Peter Fosselman Director, B-CC Regional Services @BethesdaUP @friendshiphts @Pike_District @mcpnews @Rockville411 @RockvilleCityPD
