@democracycoma1_ @aliciakearns You sure you’d be saying that of your child was raped
English

@aliciakearns 15 years in prison is not a lenient sentence.
English

Too many rapists are being given lenient sentences.
David Lammy is proposing an arbitrary target to reduce the number of young people in custody.
He also wants to treat under 25s like children in sentencing.
Labour want to give 16 year olds the vote, yet believe a 23-year-old rapist is too young to be held accountable for his actions.
It was shameful the Government won’t refer his sentence for being unduly lenient.

@AustAnglican I have a sneaking suspicion that the preacher at the most recent cdn consecration will end up being a bishop one day.

@LukeMontalbano @OneCanadaProj Congratulations! You’re doing God’s work helping to document our nation’s stories before they’re lost to the annals of time.

So nice of my team to celebrate my confirmation with me!

If judges insist on a policymaking role instead of just interpreting the law, then their decisions should be as subject to democratic accountability as is any other form of policymaking.
And while many will defend overreach with good intention, the risk it carries is that our governments will need use the notwithstanding clause more often (I realize this is common in Quebec).
Judicial activism is by no means new, but feels increasingly common in a way that is undermining public trust.

@Ocar2z9g This! ‘Traditionalist’ were so up in arms about HMTK being a ‘modernist’ and longing for the PoW to take the throne. Little do they know he embodies the ‘woke’ they hate lmao.
English

@mrdavidrowe Thank you! I’m the same, very excited for it
English

@BCPBertan Congrats on your Confirmation!
(I'm one of those people who is a lot more into Confirmation than a lot of people are. I think it's a big deal.)
English

@jtheleast I will assume that you’re making this comment in good faith and aren’t familiar with the judiciary. She doesn’t know their names. That’s why she’s calling for the courts to release them. In cases involving minors there’s an automatic publication ban which keeps them secret.
English

She is an MP! She literally can name them! Parliamentary privilege!

It was pre-meditated. They are repeat gang-rapists. The perpetrators should be named. It is in the public interest. Speaking to @ShelaghFogarty on why I've referred the sentences of three gang-rapists to the Attorney General as unduly lenient.
