Good God this is the worst advice I've ever seen. I'd toyed with trying a short fiction experiment of writing a flat arc protagonist that's a seething racist just to see if I could, and now I might just to spite shit like this.

I strongly dislike making stealth edits to previous books—once they’re out, they’re out, and I shouldn’t be changing things on a whim. But I need some flavor details in Bloodlust that were completely omitted from Lifebinder by accident. Whoops.

When I was a much younger Carpenter, I cut my teeth on writing stories in AOL chat rooms. Knew a guy who wrote reams and reams of lore on his own D&D race that essentially boiled down to "drow...but vampires."
Wonder whatever happened to that guy.

To all of you fuming in airport lines today, your misery traces back to July 2002-- when the GOP led house voting overwhelmingly to create TSA as part of a new fedgov department known as "Homeland Security."
This was sold by Dick Armey to a very willing George W Bush the same way the CIA was sold to Truman: as a "consolidation" of existing agencies, reports, channels, etc. Efficiency! And hey, if a few airport scanners need to be sold to this new department, so be it.
So instead of owners- airlines- working with airports to secure air travel, we get the worst combination of inept and sinister: DMV/USPS meets Michael Chertoff.

It’s pretty clear why the AI book made it past editors. This is simply the level of writing that gets published these days. Every person working in these places holds the reader and their own product in utter contempt.

My daughter is visiting MIT and just told me that they have a “banana room”. If you too want to know what on earth this is, it’s just a room decorated with banana pictures and stuffed bananas and crates of bananas, and you can go in and take as many as you want, surrounded by the sweet tropical scent of…bananas!
