Tagging success! After months of quiet shark activity, 8 white sharks have been satellite-tagged. With sightings declining along South Africa’s south-west coast, new tracking data will help uncover where these iconic predators are going & why. @AlisonTowner1 #collaborationiskey

🎣 Exciting News! FREE Descending Devices – Limited Supply! 🎣 To support pollack conservation, the Angling Trust—in partnership with Veal's Mail Order and funded by the Marine Management Organisation—is giving away a limited number of free descending devices to private boat anglers and charter skippers across the UK. Research from Pollack FISP shows 75% of pollack with barotrauma can survive if released using a descending device. Let’s all commit to following the Pollack Pact to protect stocks for the future. Don’t forget they’ll work on other species that experience barotrauma too - like wrasse. How to get yours: 🎣 Apply via our website and act fast – limited numbers available 🎣 Agree to share a social media post showing the device in use to spread the word to other anglers Let’s work together to protect pollack and secure the future of sea angling. A wonder if anybody had considered the chances of a tanker with jet fuel hitting a container ship containing large volumes of sodium cyanide. What a nightmare scenario 🤯 bbc.co.uk/news/live/cgq1…

@ecoevoenviro @elonmusk I am pretty much only there now as well. Such a shame as this used to be a great place for discussing and connecting. But things are now much nicer where the skies are blue

Angling Trust launches pollack survey to capture recreational anglers’ views on management The Angling Trust is calling on the sea angling community to take part in a new survey on recreational pollack fishing. Open now until Sunday 23rd March, this survey is part of the Pollack Fisheries Industry Science Partnership (FISP) project. The research team behind the survey are not policymakers or fisheries managers, but the project’s findings will help inform discussions on the future of pollack stocks. The survey is an opportunity for anglers to have their say and contribute to the sustainable management of this recreationally important species. Take part in the survey 👇 surveymonkey.com/r/pollackangli… Learn more about the survey and the next steps for pollack on our blog: anglingtrust.net/2025/03/03/ang…

This survey is open to anybody with a stake/view. Commercial fishermen, recreational sea anglers, academics, seafood professionals, etc. Your time is really appreciated and I promise this is a quick survey.
Edd Hind-Ozan@socialseas

You still have until February 28th to share your views on FISHERIES MANAGEMENT PLANS as part of their official, independent evaluation. The survey will take between 5-10 minutes to complete: icfconsulting.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_73…. #UKfisheries

Wonderful to see a full house at yesterday's FISP conference and Ropes to Reefs workshop, & a fun party with ceilidh to celebrate our achievements! Feels like just the tip of the iceberg though, still so many insights needed into fisheries and aquaculture @DefraGovUK @PlymUni

Are you logging your catches with the Sea Angling Diary project? Without data on our sector, sea angling could lose out on demonstrating its value and importance to our coastal communities. The UK Government is increasingly relying on data from the project to make decisions about recreational sea angling. A lack of data is no longer a reason for the government to not take management decisions under the precautionary principle enshrined in UK law under the Fisheries Act (2020). The more sea anglers participating in the diary, the more representative the data will be. Strong data on recreational sea angling is integral to fighting our corner and ensuring a sustainable future for fisheries. The Angling Trust remains a critical friend of the Sea Angling Diary, and we will always highlight the concerns of sea anglers with any data throughout the process. Sign up here: seaangling.org

Great to see the @AnglingTrust making this progressive move to promote more #sustainable recreational #fisheries 🐟 👏
Angling Trust@AnglingTrust

Pollack is an important species for anglers. Whether that’s putting food on the plates of anglers' families, supporting recreational fishing businesses and coastal economies, or providing wellness benefits through recreational fishing, pollack is vital for the sector and its future. Tragically, pollack is experiencing unprecedented declines. Whilst recreational anglers do take pollack for the table and have a contribution to make in stock conservation, total recreational catches do not compare to historic commercial landings. The Angling Trust is clear: we recognise the importance of sustainable fisheries and that everyone should play their part in rebuilding pollack stocks for future generations to enjoy, but the role of commercial fishing practices like wreck netting in driving pollack to the brink should not be overlooked or forgotten. Following months of engagement with the recreational angling sector, the Angling Trust, in partnership with the Professional Boatmen’s Association (PBA), is launching new voluntary guidelines for recreational pollack fishing. Read the full story, guidelines and next steps here: anglingtrust.net/2025/02/11/pol… On 10th February 2025, the National Federation of Fisherman’s Organisations (NFFO) published an article on pollack which misrepresented the Pollack Fisheries Industry Science Partnership (FISP) project, its aims and its findings. We will shortly be publishing an explainer to rebut the claims in the article.
