@zeelee3D @learning_yohei It's just getting used to it. I've used both interchangeably my entire life (and I was born in Baton Rouge). I also don't care about the gender issues. "Guys" is unisex now.

@learning_yohei American, obviously. American English comes from the common speech of England, while British Engkish comes from the taudry nobility.

@zeelee3D @learning_yohei To answer the question about the "r", part of it is a British-ism to avoid certain vowels back to back when speaking. "America is..." has a stop that they find awkward, so "Americar is..." replaces it to flow better. Lindybeige has a full explanation somewhere.

We Americans have commandeered and taken over English. Proper English is now American. Also at first I thought it was wild that ALL of Hong Kong speaks in British accents, until you realize they learn English from the Brits primarily. Also why do the brits add R to the end of a? Americker

@theistinthought Wait, there's something I missed. 2) ...except sexual promiscuity committed by a woman.

@theistinthought This is the correct view, but the problem is that the view infiltrating some of the "Christian" right is: 1) God can forgive any sin committed by man. 2) ...except sexual promiscuity. This is wong and quite heretical, yet there are many who are following it.

I think a reasonable person can hold these two views simultaneously: - God can forgive a person’s sexually promiscuous past. - I won’t marry someone with a sexually promiscuous past even if God has forgiven them for it. (I’m not saying you have to hold the second view; but it’s not unreasonable.)

@BMcGrewvy Most films don't end on a note of pointlessness. I certainly can't think of many.

@BE_Waymire I like The Great Escape because it doesn't end on a note of complete pointlessness, though I do think it struggles to find its tonal balance.

@BMcGrewvy Bridge Over the River Kwai and Great Escape both offer a positive vision of good showing resistance in the face of actual mistreatment. I don't know what else you'd want.

@BE_Waymire When kids' cinematic imaginations are being formed I'm not solely concerned with avoiding "negative stuff." I think they should see things offering a positive vision of the good, where the ending isn't constructed in a way that pulls the rug out from under the viewer.

@frozenaesthetic It means Hollywood has a really hard time writing interesting women. They get it right sometimes, especially in the past but feminism has made them stupid. Look at Japan. Anime women are almost universally great characters and beloved by men and women.

@PaulaGhete @Son_of_Mars_III Two reasons. 1) The second there's a known new couple in a church, the gossip and rumors begin. This is highly likely. 2) Men and women are increasingly afraid of commitment, and it's culture's fault. Just look at the commenters in this thread talking badly about them.

@Son_of_Mars_III Why? A man who knows he is looking for a wife and who says this signals "I am ready to commit and won't waste your time. I know what I want. I am trying to find out if that is you." I find this very attractive.

This mentality is also massively present in protestant churches. You're not allowed to outright say you are looking for a wife (in fact, if you are known to be, it repels women; any woman that responds positively is a "pick me"). You must be passive as a man to find one._

Man posts in local Facebook group, moving to area. Asks which Catholic parishes have thriving community, would be best for single man to attend- “is successful + seeking wife soon” + same faith is priority. Entire comment section berating him. “Church isn’t for dating!”

@JesseHughes It's honestly the new purity culture. "You had sex before marriage, therefore you're worth nothing except as a random ho." The majority of men promoting this aren't even actually Christian, but rather adjacent to Islam and pretending to be Christian for optics.

Since this is apparently making the rounds again, some helpful tips for all: - It is a sin to have sex outside of marriage - People who have committed this sin, even multiple times, are capable of redemption by God - Forgiveness of sin does not mean you are now a virgin - Forgiveness of sin and following God’s commands does mean you are capable of being a suitable spouse - Men do not have to date or marry women just because the woman is a Christian, - Who you marry is up to you - If someone has a past and you are willing to look past that, then explore the option of marriage with that person - If someone has a past and that is a dealbreaker for you, that’s ok as well and you have no obligation whatsoever to marry that person - You are under no obligation whatsoever to marry someone because of stories like Rahab in the Bible - Who you marry is for you to determine only with the counsel of the Holy Spirit, your family, and your friends, not random strangers on the internet Can we finally stop bringing this up every six months?

Does this silly little man not understand that Islam is a very aggressive belief system, threatening death to anyone who does not convert to Islam The Buddhists, the Taoists, the Scottish Presbyterians, the Hindus and the Sikhs and the Confucians and the Catholics don't go around shouting about beheading people they disagree with Is this too much for your tiny little brain to take in ? Oh. The doorbell rang. The police I assume...
Gad Saad@GadSaad

Indeed. Whenever Jews are attacked (typically by Muslims), it is important to redouble our efforts to fight against Islamophobia.

@HarrisonGarlic1 Honestly, I can see being wary of dating someone at your church not due to specific religious reasons, but gossip.

Here are the rules: Church isn’t for dating until it is. Guy you’re not interested in asks you out = inappropriate place and time Guy you’re interested in asks you out = God’s providence Those are the rules I’ve observed.

@DanielleA34203 @HanShawnity We probably could have won in Europe without the USSR, it just would have been much bloodier. Or maybe not. Hitler invaded the USSR for labor and resources. He likely would have anyway. Whether the USSR would have survived or not is up in the air. And cue the tankies.

@BE_Waymire @HanShawnity This is truth. Could we have won WWII without Russia? My assumption has always been it was more of a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation but then they turned around and became our enemy anyway.

Hear me out: America First, but... We're allowed to criticize Qatar, Israel didn't kill Charlie Kirk, the Holocaust happened, the allies were the good guys in WWII, Bush didn't do 9/11, not everything is WWIII, Iran shouldn't have nuclear weapons, and the Earth is not flat. What say you?

Genuinely, what’s wrong with people? My answer was simply honoring that the burden of judgement belongs to Our Lord and not myself…and along come a bunch of fellow sinful humans who think they can top Him. Follow Christ, and let Him be the judge. Pray for His discernment in all things. No one on X can tell someone else if they are getting to heaven or not. That’s prideful and wrong.
