@SarahTheBanned I hear ya. My mom and stepdad bought their first house for $40k in their mid-30s in the late 80s, 9 years after they married. It was a two bedroom more than six miles from the nearest town, which had less than 500 people. I qualified for free lunches throughout high school.

@saluwe My older son got his Bachelors degree paid for by putting in the work for a Florida Bright Futures scholarship. My younger son fulfilled his army duties so he will get the GI bill to pay for it.
I suppose those who take on unnecessary debt for college have it tougher.

Loaf of bread = $5 Peanut butter = $4 Jelly = $4 18 pack of chips = $12 Bag of apples = $5 Total = $30 And you'll have lunch for an entire week or two. $2-4 average per day. Inflation isn't the problem. Your spending habits are.

Some of us literally brought poverty meals to work when we were living in poverty. We then worked our way out of poverty over the course of several years via hard work and good work ethic. Now we see people complaining about $28 lunches and get a bit perturbed. 🤷♂️

Let's test that. If an 18 year old saves $26 a day by eating the cheap sandwich instead of the $28 lunch mentioned, that's $9,490 a year. In five years, that's $47,450 if you save NOTHING else. That's a 20% down payment for a $230k home at 23. If you wait until 28, it's $94.9k.
