(Imaginary Morpheus meme template here) What if I told you that today’s ICE shooting in Minnesota AND Ashli Babbitt’s shooting were BOTH justified?

@ConceptualJames You've been reduced to calling people citing verifiable facts 'insane'. If there's an insanity issue here, it can be found in a mirror. Or is that just the financial incentives talking?

@SarahTheBanned I hear ya. My mom and stepdad bought their first house for $40k in their mid-30s in the late 80s, 9 years after they married. It was a two bedroom more than six miles from the nearest town, which had less than 500 people. I qualified for free lunches throughout high school.

@JackLinFLL We have enough problems with traffic in Orlando, but your neck of the woods is the only one where I’ve seen multiple cars (on multiple days - not just a street race) exceeding 120. And I have only driven down there a handful of times.

Good point!

@facetedcarapace Honestly, if cooking a simple meal and prepping lunches for the week on the weekend is such an insurmountable struggle maybe you're not mentally capable of owning a home. The maintenance would probably break you.

@saluwe My older son got his Bachelors degree paid for by putting in the work for a Florida Bright Futures scholarship. My younger son fulfilled his army duties so he will get the GI bill to pay for it. I suppose those who take on unnecessary debt for college have it tougher.

@BFcerdo Well, regarding B, what was eye-opening for me was running a Zillow search in my area and comparing the cost of tuition and fees at my university when I went vs. now. Then: about $2500 Now: about $15,000 The education I got is now six times more expensive.

A post from @alexthechick about delayed gratification got me thinking the other day, especially when the next day erupted into generational warfare over dietary and spending habits. Here's the starting point:
alexandriabrown@alexthechick

Counterpoint: what is the reward for delaying gratification? I'll work extra hours and weekends and answer emails at midnight: have to do two people's job with no increase in pay and still get fired I'll save money: inflation wipes it out Delayed gratification is punished.

@saluwe Housing is weird. I bought a house in 2001 and sold it at a loss in 2011, despite spending tens of thousands on upgrades. There are times when it’s unaffordable, and sometimes it pays to wait things out

@saluwe I need to be convinced that old promise truly doesn’t exist for Gen Z, and nobody has come close.

But the older generations are slow to accept that the old promise doesn't exist for Gen Z. Their rejection of delayed gratification and embrace of the pleasures of the present doesn't come from entitlement as much as it comes from despair.

Some of us literally brought poverty meals to work when we were living in poverty. We then worked our way out of poverty over the course of several years via hard work and good work ethic. Now we see people complaining about $28 lunches and get a bit perturbed. 🤷‍♂️
alexandriabrown@alexthechick

@SoothingDave I used poverty meal specifically. Hey, you can just take a pb&j to your job every day is so fucking tone deaf I do not know where to start.

@BFcerdo @AGHamilton29 @jay_kobbe Don’t get emotional. You can’t justify military action, unless there is an imminent threat to the United States. Without ICBM, a warhead or even a nuclear weapons program, according to our intel, the IAEA, and Trump’s former director of the National Counterterrorism, they are not

Without question, putting Donald Trump in the White House is the worst mistake America has ever made. Now the question is whether we will ever recover from it.
