Currently in Mexico. On the flight down, the guy next to me left his tray table down for the entire takeoff. I warned him: if they had to reject the takeoff and he lurched forward (big dude), he could've seriously hurt himself on that thing. Takeoff, landing, and taxi are the riskiest parts of flying. So to everyone who unhooks their seatbelt the instant the plane touches down—listen to the crew and keep your damn seatbelt fastened until you reach the gate. That's it. That's the tweet.

@AirCanada Translation: “please stop bothering us, we heard and we are currently focusing our energy on distancing ourselves rather than compassionately responding to the people — and their families — who were killed, injured and/or traumatized.”

@AirCanada Valid phrasing but it irks me that when announcing the deaths of the pilots he calls them jazz employees

NEW: Preliminary data from FlightRadar24 suggests Air Canada 8646 was traveling about 90 knots (100+ mph) when it collided with a LaGuardia airport fire truck responding to another incident. Big questions for investigators about ATC comms.

@Mikeggibbs Air Canada is based in Canada not the US. Blaming Trump for Canadian behavior is crazy.

Unbelievable tragedy for Air Canada and all Canadians. My thoughts are with friends who are Air Canada employees on this terrible day, and the families of the pilots who were killed, and injured passengers. We need answers. We know Trump has ruined flight safety in the US so I'm betting this is a direct result of bad Trump policies and not the fault of the pilots. But that's just a hunch. Time will tell. My point is, can we trust air crash investigations led by Americans under this deeply corrupt administration that lies all the time when it suits them?

Important note regarding the accident at LaGuardia Airport. United 2384 wanted to return to gate. Odor in back of plane. Pilot couldn’t raise anyone at United to help get him a gate. Air traffic controller tried to help. There were no gates. Pilot asked for fire truck. 1/2

@petemuntean @DanLamothe Early BBC report had it traveling much slower (at 24 mph) implying it was exiting the runway on to a taxiway. At 90 knots the damage to the plane would have been far worse

The collision involving an Air Canada Express aircraft last night in New York that claimed the lives of the pilot and co-pilot, and injured dozens more, is deeply saddening. Canadian officials are working closely with their U.S. counterparts on the ground as the investigation continues. My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those impacted.
