Genuinely a shame to see Highguard shutting down. Not every game gets the runway it needs, especially in today’s climate where attention spans are short & competition is brutal. We’re lucky Rust found its footing when it did and had the space to grow into what it is now. Wishing the Highguard team nothing but the best.

Marathon first impressions: PVP is absolutely the games greatest strength! We had some really fun engagements today but those moments were far too stagnated and we really had to look for those interesting gunfights during moments of downtime where there's not a whole lot to do. The AI enemies will mess you up extremely fast if you're not careful and are best avoided if you want to conserve ammo and get the jump on a nearby team but they're sadly just bullet sponges by design with no intuitive or unique ways to take them down which you really do feel coming from ARC Raiders or Helldivers 2. The gunplay is solid and TTK is in a great spot but there just isn't enough action throughout the match and loot is mostly scarce beyond the provisional items you find around like meds and ammo so you're never really "extracting" with anything of value and the loot pool is extremely small. I've heard that everyone's mileage has been different but we had 2 decent fights in the first 3 hours we played and the rest of the time consisted of mundane missions like breaking glass windows 20 times and PVE engagements that quickly became repetitive. Did we have fun with the game? 100% but you really shouldn't have to look so hard to find that fun so either the matchmaking is broken or there are simply only ever 3-4 teams in an entire raid? How has your mileage been so far? 🤔
