The goal of my entire career as an historian was to ensure that citizens learned the lessons of history—including the vital lesson that antisemitic rhetoric can be translated into genocidal reality if it is adopted by a modern state. Yet today, as AI permeates social networks, anti-history is spreading like a cancer. The Holocaust is either denied or derided. I have to admit: I failed utterly.

The silence of the West is also a condemnation of the sincerity of the West's belief in a 2-state solution. If there was ever an independent Palestinian state, it was Gaza. And the West looked the other way for almost 2 decades of constant aggression by the Gaza govt, culminating in 10/7.

It also reveals how out of touch he is with the Muslim world. The Ambassadors of Morocco, Bahrain, and Azerbaijan have addressed AIPAC summits at the highest levels, alongside Arab and Muslim leadership around the world. They understand that the future of the region requires engagement, not demonization. By inference, Mayor Mamdani just called his co-religionists “monsters.” Mayor Mamdani is out of touch with the Jewish community of New York. He is also out of touch with the Muslim leadership of the world. I extend my offer to him again. Come with me, Mr. Mayor. Meet the Arab and Muslim ambassadors in Washington. Tour the Gulf states with me. Sit with the leaders and imams I have known for decades. Hear from them about why your rhetoric is at odds with their belief that Israelis and Palestinians can coexist. APPLEBAUM: Russians very publicly and clearly not winning the war. Gap between Russian propaganda and reality becoming clearer. That’s beginning to have echoes. You can see it on Russian internet, in responses of Russian influencers. Critiques of Putin starting to bubble up. People are commenting, “Why aren’t we winning? Why aren’t we trying harder?” There are people talking about nukes again. That always happens when Russians are losing. There’s a sense of shakiness and instability. Putin has been trying to persuade Russians not to pay attention to the war: “It’s an inevitable Russian victory. We’re going to win sooner or later. We’re much bigger than they are. They’re not a real country. Their country is run by Nazis. It’s not a real government. And we’re going to win.” Now, it’s becoming clear to a lot of people, not just those near the front line, but in Moscow and St. Petersburg, that they are not winning the war.
