@MercerCait I prefer the old English customs.
As one of my father’s friends used to say:
“Hooray, hooray for the first of May, hedge bottom dicking starts today!”
David Inshaw The Badminton Game, inspired by the gardens and landscape of Devizes and Wiltshire.
“I think my main aim was to produce a picture that held a moment in time”
Tate Modern.
@ThermopylaeRIP Got a lift down to Twickenham once in one of those to watch the rugby. I sat in the back and the leg room was simply huge (and I’m 6ft 5in).
Very nice motor.
@ThermopylaeRIP Not sure.
The thing I find with classical music is to experience it live.
We’re quite lucky as the Philharmonia play at the De Montfort Hall 5 or 6 times a year. It’s a real treat to be able to catch an orchestra of that quality without having to trek to London.
@ThermopylaeRIP I have the recording by John Williams and caught him performing it at the Proms many years ago.
It is so passionate and redolent of Spain.
@fenlandflo Had a 2cm splinter of carbon fibre in his thumb - acquired during rowing training…
Haven’t seen him this morning yet. Suspect his biggest grumble will be not being able to row for a few days…
@MercerCait Cannot start the day without a cup of English breakfast tea.
Disappointingly conventional in my hot drink choices.
Tea first thing, coffee around 9am and maybe again at 11am (decaf this time).
Tea only in the afternoon.
"After a cup of tea [two spoonfuls for each cup, and don't let it stand more than three minutes,] it says to the brain, "Now, rise, and show your strength..."
Jerome K. Jerome, Three Men in a Boat
I’ll never forgive Nestlé for getting rid of Kit Kat’s inner silver wrapper. The tactile pleasure of drawing your fingernail down the silver foil. I just wouldn’t bother eating one now.
