Write this into history. Forty days after one of the worst massacres in modern memory, the Iranian people returned to the streets. They honored their fallen in the face of tyranny, danced where there was grief, and chanted where there was fear, so their killers would never claim victory. Let it be remembered that our people stood.

What happened in Iran is the largest and most lethal state massacre in modern history of the world after the Second World War. Even the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown had fewer casualties than what ayatollahs did to the Iranian protestors. And for the record, 12,000 is a conservative figure. Almost all emerging anecdotal reporting that’s gradually coming out of Iran indicates this figure is far larger. What is unfolding before our eyes can be easily described and characterized as crime against humanity in epic proportion. It’s time for world leaders to act, intervene, and stop the regime’s atrocities. Expelling IR ambassadors from your countries and shutting down your embassies in (occupied) Iran are a start.

These are not random incidents. The last 20 years are part of a 47-year pattern of oppression and corruption. A regime that has destroyed lives in Iran and destabilized the world. Forced migration, violence, and injustice continue. The world must wake up. The Iranian government’s violent crackdown on demonstrators is horrific and must stop now. All people have the right to protest their government without fear of violence. I support the Iranians taking to the streets to call for a better future.
