This is a somewhat disingenuous interpretation of the situation.
1. It is the Food Business Operator’s (FBO) responsibility to produce safe food.
2. The Competent Authority (in this case FSA) is responsible for ensuring the FBO has effective controls in place.

Today we issued a call for evidence on the impact of discounts for official controls in meat premises. In our latest blog Dr James Cooper, our Deputy Director of Food Policy, explains why discounts are offered and why what we charge may have to change. food.blog.gov.uk/2024/09/12/pro…

Food security starts with producers and here @britishpoultry we’re delighted that the APPG is up and running, and looking forward to it helping ensure the nation eats well.

On the @NFUtweets #BackBritishFarmingDay it was fantastic to be elected as Chair of the APPG for Food Security 🇬🇧🚜 I look forward to working with MPs across the political spectrum to ensure Food Security is firmly on the agenda.

@pmdfoster @FT Reducing friction/cost of trade is more urgent. Until we understand what the best place we can be is as a 3rd country to the EU, there’s no way to have sensible debate on alignment. If SM/CU is off the table then aligning outcomes not processes may be where we’re headed.

Q: Does industry just want to re-align with Europe?
A: Not necessarily.
Putting Humpty back together again after Brexit is more complicated that is widely understood — my latest @ft State of Britain newsletter.

@dan_crossley After recent years ‘broadly sensible’ sounds good. I like the setting of ambitions so the supply chain knows what it’s aiming for, but we also need to be very clear with Gov about the tools and support we need. Partnership working will be key…no more ‘them’ and ‘us’.
English

@pmdfoster @jreynoldsMP @FT @Sam1Fleming @britishchambers All while many sectors see a move towards SM as the ONLY feasible path to stability and business confidence. The refusal to have tough conversations with voters makes it seem Labour is trying, at the same time, to win this election and lose the next one. Reality will bite back.

NEW: 🇪🇺🇬🇧🚨 Labour rules out radical changes to UK-EU trade ties - @jreynoldsMP says anything too radical will upset Brexit consensus and send negative message to investors. Stability is more important. Me & @ft @Sam1Fleming at @britishchambers conference

As you’re asking for my vote @DrNeilHudson do you back food security being used for dog-whistle politics at a time when the use of food banks in Epping Forest is growing? How are you going to help reduce hunger and support food producers in this area?

English

@Conservatives You’ve never taken food security seriously, so don’t drag us into your dog-whistle politics. If you want to be seen as a credible party - in Govt or opposition - then you need to stop this approach.
English

@RishiSunak Where’s the…”and a Conservative Gov will commit to buying as much British produce as possible in our public procurement network; thereby backing our farmers, supporting our largest manufacturing sector, and boosting nutrition for society”?
English

@CCHQPress You mean a strictly regulated activity based on science and world class expertise that balances good welfare with high productivity to the benefit of the whole country, not just those who can afford it? Maybe education is not just for kids…
English

Labour have failed to work out how much space children actually need. All their policy will achieve is stuffing pre-school children into overcrowded classrooms like battery farm chickens.

A welcome ambition of course. Yet across food production (UK’s largest manufacturing sector) there are many thousands of vacancies and we’ll need more over the next decade. Perhaps look to help fill those as much as creating new opportunities. #foodsecurity
