The success of the Natural History Museum demonstrates the strength of Britain’s world-class cultural institutions. All the attractions on the top list make a major contribution to our tourism economy and attract visitors from across the country and around the world. Many received an existential lifeline through the £1.5 billion Culture Recovery Fund during the pandemic and visitor numbers for some are still below pre-pandemic levels. So, the government should be supporting them rather than cutting tourism marketing spend and whacking up National Insurance on these vital institutions that still have fragile finances. standard.co.uk/news/london/na…

Labour hiked taxes by £66 billion - and still can't stop BORROWING. February borrowing alone hit £14.3 billion this year - the highest February monthly borrowing since the pandemic. Debt interest alone now tops £100 billion. That's double the defence budget. We're piling debt onto the next generation because Starmer and Reeves refuse to control spending. Rachel Reeves has mismanaged the economy and made irresponsible choices. She's scrapped spending cuts. Hammered businesses. Punished wealth creators. And what's the result? Debt levels we haven’t seen since the 1960s. Enough is enough. Britain must live within its means.

You can’t run a car on heating oil, @EmmaforWycombe! Rural families depend on their cars to live their lives. Labour’s fuel duty hike will make rural life even more expensive. The @Conservatives are fighting this for you. Sign our petition 👉 axethefueltax.com

There are serious Qs for Ministers to answer on the Land Use Framework including solar farms already in planning, the seeming reduction of food producing land and the methodology used. This should be scrutinised by MPs but, yet again, Ministers are running scared of the Commons.

The Lords have voted mandation out of the pensions bill. Robustly. It’s a dangerous power no government should wield. Take note @TorstenBell. Let’s keep it out.

Despite Bridget Phillipson’s rhetoric, this shows they have already made key decisions making a mockery of the consultation process. I have always said that whatever the reforms are, children and parents must come first. The Conservatives have always been clear about this. The government is taking away rights from children and parents. They need to be honest about that.
Eduardo Reyes@edreyesjourno

Government admits key final decisions on the SEND Tribunal have already been made, despite consultation on its SEND reforms being open till 18 May. It's at odds with ministers' statements on the consultation engaging people 'before any final decision'. lawgazette.co.uk/news/key-final…

At last, the government is adopting Conservative policies to tackle fly-tipping. It’s a pity Labour voted against them last year but at least they’re now doing something after yet more rubbish building up. Labour’s sky-high Landfill Tax and their push towards less frequent bin collections, however, risks fuelling the criminal behaviour they claim to be cracking down on. This is the pattern under Labour: you pay more, you get less, and problems get worse. Only the @Conservatives are listening to people and developing solutions for our rural, coastal and urban environments.

Turns out Starmer and Mandelson’s meeting with Palantir wasn’t a meeting. Hope that’s clear.

Stamp Duty is a terrible tax. A tax on aspiration. This week I went to @WinkworthUK to meet a first time buyer and someone looking to downsize to hear their thoughts on the @Conservatives pledge to ABOLISH Stamp Duty when you buy your home.

Prime Ministers Questions means Starmer is supposed to answer questions not ask them. He won't say whether he spoke to Mandelson about his friendship with a prolific paedophile. The Prime Minister is not taking responsibility and plainly not sorry.

Starmer is now so weak he’s shelving his own immigration reforms. I offered Conservative support for reforms to ILR in the national interest. The PM hasn't replied…. If Keir Starmer doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to Angela Rayner, I'm happy to lend him one.
Jack Elsom@JackElsom

Immigration climbdown incoming? After yesterday's attack by Angela Rayner on "un-British" reforms, Downing Street now repeatedly refusing to stand by Shabana Mahmood's policy to toughen the indefinite leave to remain criteria. No10 still saying they are committed to a "fair" immigration system but will now not get ahead of a government "consultation".
