For decades particle physicists have built specialized ML models for distinct tasks. Now it's time to build a foundation model with wide-ranging capabilities. We're taking the first step with the Covariant Particle Transformer (CPT)! Find pre-trained weights at the end. 1/7

Just learned that I received the lab-equivalent of tenure! Still sinking in that my contract to be a physicist is without an end date. This is the end of the beginning of a journey many years in the making. Thank you everyone who made it possible; I'm excited for what comes next!

Simone Mazza @boes42 gave a talk about large language models for HEP. One example he gave was to explain RECAST. It got the reference right, with the exception of one detail… the author (not @BPNachman). 🤣 reinforces Michael Peskin’s point inspirehep.net/literature/872…

Announcing "Machine Learning for Jets" 2021. Not jets in the sky, but the kind you find in a particle collider like the LHC. Jet physics has probably been the most active area of deep learning in particle physics. 6-8 July 2021 indico.cern.ch/event/980214/

LHC Olympics paper is now out! It has been quite a journey & I am exciting to see many new anomaly detection methods. We also exposed gaps in coverage - new techniques are still needed! Special thanks to co-organizers @GregorKasieczka and David Shih. arxiv.org/abs/2101.08320
