It’s sad to see this misinformation still doing the rounds and getting large engagement from gullible people. The case was heard on 5-6 June *2019*. It was lost, and lost again on appeal in 2020. There was no media blackout. But campaigners greatly misled crowdfunders about it

@GrumpyGit1960 @SimonCalder Would have made much more sense to follow Irelands lead and find out what people's problems with the EU actually were, tried to fix them then rerun the referendum.

@SimonCalder You can trace this chaos back to Cameron. He gave in for a referendum, he did set a majority benchmark of 15 or 20%, and the country was almost equally divided. And this is the mess we're left with. The irony is that the legals need more proof of their ID that the illegals.

EU entry-exit system. The EES was never intended to contend with the British. Most of the “third-country nationals” crossing Schengen frontiers are from the UK. We add too much pressure in too many inadequate border locations. Europe must pause and reflect independent.co.uk/travel/news-an…

@Defence_Index Why would they fly close to the Russian border or in range of electronic warfare measures? Seems like a major planning mistake.

@scottiebateman Same thing happened to the EU President a while ago, also flying close to Russia. Then the MSM claimed it was an attempt to kill her, when the crew just rebriefed for an ILS approach instead of RNAV and landed a few minutes later than planned. Slow news day.

This is complete non-event whipped up into a media frenzy. Firstly, it’s likely to have been spoofing rather than jamming, and it happens to hundreds of aircraft in this region every day, this isn’t a targeted attack as is being inferred. Spoofing is where the GPS signal is manipulated to tell the aircraft it isn’t where it actually is. This is different from jamming which blocks the signal. The former is more sneaky as you may not notice the discrepancy and that would be bad. But never fear… we have a plan to prevent that. There are well established procedures from all aircraft manufacturers to limit the effectiveness of this GPS denial and protect systems so they recover. What happens is the aircraft system doesn’t fail, it recognises, quite quickly, that the signal it’s receiving is rubbish (false), by comparing it to trusted internal sources. It then rejects that signal for navigation purposes. It then continually assesses this signal to see if it can use it. After a while, it gives up and resolves that the GPS can’t be trusted (this is where the RAF aircraft ended up). There are procedures that can protect the aircraft from getting to that final position of entirely rejecting the signal as untrustworthy, even when it’s perfectly accurate. But even if the GPS doesn’t recover it’s still not a problem as aircraft have internal (inertial navigation systems) that don’t rely on GPS and where we can use ground based beacons we can ensure the accuracy of these. Hence the airplane landed safely, where it was supposed to be. This is a daily occurrence for any aircraft flying in this region…

@cynicalkind I wonder if the silt the dredger is picking up is classed as toxic waste, like silt from a river?

What a brilliant sight. People just getting on with life, enjoying themselves in the spring sunshine, while workers on the dredger 'Marlin' carry on clearing the channel for #shipping. #Sunderland harbour

@peopledisplacer Wages (and certainly wage hikes) should be related to the success and performance of the overall company. It may not be the fault of a checkout assistant if Woolworths loses money or goes bust. But it affects them. It’s a joint enterprise. Same should apply to rail.

Over the last 24 hours I have attempted to make a fairy simple journey from London to Wiltshire and back. Two of my trains were cancelled. Of the five I did get on, all were late and one didn’t even make it to my intended (and advertised) destination. Why are rail staff getting pay rises again?

@Days_Are_Gone Sounds like the kind of season Villa used to have. Maybe need a new manager to motivate the whole team.

John McGinn’s story at Aston Villa honestly feels like something football fans used to dream about. Signed for £2.8m from Hibernian. Helped save Villa from relegation. Led them back into Europe. Now captained the club to a European trophy. That’s not just a good signing anymore. That’s club legend status secured forever. 💜💙 #AVFC

@Jenny_1884 Hate the stuff. Burger King are much better and in the US I'd try and find a Wendy's. Best burger I've had in the UK was Five Guys, but their fries were awful.

@ClaudetteSurrey @HoCcommitteesUK And if you check you'll see that HS2 is in the top half of the speed league table. But that's what happens when you rely on a page noted for getting even the most simple facts wrong.

@ClaudetteSurrey @HoCcommitteesUK Then give your evidence to the authorities. What's that? You don't have any evidence, it's just something you need to be true to stop your bubble bursting? You really ought to read the Transport Secretary's statement instead of making a fool of yourself.

@BRCWCo @HoCcommitteesUK The taxpayer has (unwittingly) allowed a corrupt transportation system to gorge themselves on pots of public money; unfortunately, all those connected with this sorry tale will be able to continue feasting on the public purse for the foreseeable future.

@wbarter54 @BRCWCo @HoCcommitteesUK That's actually very funny, Beatock on the WCML apparently a gradient of about 1.5% and is notorious, but HS2 has up to 2.5%. So Geoffrey's cheap low speed freight line version of HS2 would need much more civil engineering to keep the gradient lower, or much more winding route.
