Great breakdown of how #China has become so dominant in a critical manufacturing sector. The policies and processes described here can also be seen in a wide range of other industries. Britain and its allies need to get their act together to claw back some of the market share
Ed Conway@EdConwaySky

🚗What's happening to Europe's car industry is one of the biggest stories in the world right now, & prob the biggest story of next year too. A slow motion implosion driven by multiple factors (esp Chinese competition). Watch my primer on what's going on👇

The argument "without Western aid to Ukraine, the war will end" is categorically false, as anyone who has ever spent time in Ukraine talking to Ukrainians could tell you. Without Western aid, the war will continue, but thousands more Ukrainian civilians and soldiers will die.

Delighted to have hosted a small group in London last week to get this project underway. It is vital that the #UK and other European nations step up and support #Ukraine. We can’t wait around for the #US. If we fail, Pandora’s box will open... ft.com/content/6d4e36…

This is the elephant in the room, #ageing populations require more resources from the state and when coupled with a shrinking worker base, it leads to higher #taxes and increasing #debt. A challenge which is only going to get tougher to deal with.
John Burn-Murdoch@jburnmurdoch

The main reason is demographics. Ageing populations everywhere mean more older people living longer lives (read: more healthcare use) and being supported by fewer young people. So the healthcare bill (where most tax revenue is spent) is rising virtually everywhere.
