For decades, determining the true outer boundary of our galaxy has been extremely difficult. Observing from within the dusty, crowded galactic disk makes it hard to see clearly beyond the hundreds of billions of stars surrounding us. Now, a new study has provided the clearest answer yet. By analyzing the ages of more than 100,000 giant stars using data from major surveys — including ESA’s Gaia mission, APOGEE, and LAMOST — astronomers have identified the Milky Way’s outer limit of active star formation. According to the research, the edge of the galaxy’s stellar disk where significant star formation still occurs lies approximately 40,000 light-years from the galactic center. Beyond this boundary, new star birth largely shuts down. The region marks the final major burst of star-forming activity in the Milky Way’s disk. This discovery elegantly explains a long-standing mystery: as one moves outward from the galactic center, stars generally get younger — until suddenly, near the outskirts, they begin getting older again. The result is a distinctive “U-shaped” age pattern across the galaxy, something also seen in other spiral galaxies. Several factors appear to create this sharp cutoff. Far from the center, cold gas becomes too thin and diffuse to collapse easily into new stars. The Milky Way’s central bar may disrupt the flow of gas outward, while the galaxy’s warped outer disk can spread material too thinly for gravity to trigger fresh star formation. The findings, based on detailed stellar age mapping and computer simulations, offer the first quantitative definition of the Milky Way’s active star-forming edge. Zabójca, Vickrum Digwa, zadzwonił na policje, a nie na pogotowie i skłamał, że to Henry go zaatakował, był pijany, obraził go rasistowsko i strącił mu turban. Policja Hampshire przyjechała (trzy policjantki) i natychmiast zakuli Henry’ego w kajdanki, mimo że leżał w kałuży krwi z ranami kłutymi klatki piersiowej i nóg. Wielokrotnie powtarzał: „I’ve been stabbed” („Zostałem dźgnięty”), „I can’t breathe” („Nie mogę oddychać”). Na nagraniu z kamery osobistej słychać głos policjanta: „I don’t think you have, mate” („Nie sądzę, koleś”). Policjant, który zakuł Henry’ego w kajdanki, śmiał się, gdy ten powiedział, że został dźgnięty. Potem wleczono go po żwirze i trzymano skutego, gdy się wykrwawiał. Dopiero gdy stracił przytomność, funkcjonariusze zdjęli kajdanki i zaczęli reanimację. Henry zmarł na miejscu.
