@DeaconSports Gainey should work out well for them. If we had an opening past few years I would hope that he would have been on our short list

I’m sure Gainey will get the “mad at Wade/sentimental alum hiring” money in year 1. Will be interesting to see what happens after that. Seems a bit of an over correction from what happened with Will Wade, but we’ll see how it works out for them.

@statefansnation State has survived this once with Lowe and UNC moved pretty fast with Hubert considering he went undefeated at home this season and their biggest struggles were after losing Caleb Wilson

I know that everyone thinks that all the love for Justin Gainey is powerful and should move Boo Corrigan to make a decision. And also know they've never thought about the other side of this coin -- What happens in these situations when someone doesn't succeed? Even worse, what happens in these situations when someone only succeeds in a middling fashion? When dealing with alums, now you're dealing with a massive headache because there will always be people that support the alum no matter what, regardless of what the right decision could be. Heck, just look at Hubert right down the street. Not sure if I'm an AD that I'm dying to put myself in that position through the years. So, not sure that all the public pressure to push Boo ends up having the effect that people think it will.

@ncsuathleticfan Lead assistant at Tennessee with their success should be considered for most openings especially if Rick Barnes is saying he is ready. Miami just hired a Duke assistant. Gainey is qualified on his own to be a leading candidate. It is a huge bonus that is an alum and loves State

This Gainey talk is getting out of hand. If Schertz says no, then hire Gainey and I am fine. People have to stop saying “he’s basically the head coach at Tennessee”. He might end up being a great head coach and I hope he does but he wouldn’t be considered if he wasn’t an alum.

@ToddGibsonWNCN @WNCN They can build a good team now with Gainey and build a program for future success with Gainey. If Schertz is hesitating because of other jobs, he will run to a higher job when available or always want to renegotiate when other jobs open.

Boo needs to pull the trigger on Gainey and not wait for Schertz. Schertz may be holding out for when the UNC/Kansas dominoes fall and the Pack needs to get busy and build a team. They can do that with Gainey. @WNCN

@UnclePen1 I still think State will be missing out on a huge opportunity by not hiring Gainey. He bleeds State and is ready. He will have success initially and build a program for sustained success.

Josh Schertz is the 1st choice for NC State. Boo Corrigan (AD) hopes to get response from Schertz on Monday. He is expecting a big payday - $3.5 million. Second option is alumni Justin Gainey.

The game theory here if you can pull it off: Get Schertz Tell Gainey you love him but want someone who has been a HC Let Gainey go be a HC If Schertz doesn’t workout hire Gainey

@RWilliams_IPS Agree - spend on NIL. Gainey is ready as coach. State will be set with a coach for 20 years. State will be winning with someone who loves State and Raleigh without even a thought of leaving State no matter the offer

Just thinking about Gainey: you can save significantly more with salary & buyout. Take that extra $ to build a staff & bolster your NIL pool

@JBBurner12 Disagree. Gainey should be right there with all of them. His work at Tennessee has him ready and he has learned from the best since high school

@NCSUFanPage Justin Gainey has grown up coaching in college. Sidney Lowe was NBA. State will make a mistake not hiring Gainey. Continue to fund the NIL and let Gainey cook. After selling the soul to hire Wade the snake, Gainey is the opposite with high integrity but still a great coach

Justin Gainey is a well respected assistant with great defensive schemes, players love playing for him, AND he wants the job. Only reason why people don’t want him is because they think it’ll be another Sidney Lowe situation. No two scenarios are ever the same.

@joshwgoodson Doing due diligence is appropriate for an AD. In my humble opinion it should be Justin Gainey first and foremost. Everyone else is a distant second

With all due respect…if it’s not Schertz or Gainey then what are we even doing I don’t ultimately care as much as others (yall know this) about who coach is b/c NIL budget is the big thing… But it’s Justin before the furman coach. And if it isn’t…just shut it down.

It landed at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina. This appears to be a meeting with Furman coach Bob Richey. Richey, 43, is 203-93 with two NCAA Tournament bids in nine full seasons leading the Paladins.
