In JEE, around 5.38 lakh General category students appear, while only about 1.56 lakh SC students do. That is more than 3× competition in the General category. When a much larger pool competes for limited seats, the cutoff naturally rises. This is basic mathematics. That is why the General cutoff is around 93.41 percentile, meaning the top 6–7% qualify. Now compare this with the SC category, where the cutoff is around 63.91 percentile, allowing roughly top 36% to qualify. Why? Because the competition pool is smaller, and historically marginalized communities do not have equal access to resources. Let’s be honest. All General category students come from privileged backgrounds where coaching, test series, and academic support are common. In contrast, Dalit students are first-generation learners, often studying without guidance, without coaching, and while facing financial and social barriers. So yes, General category has higher cutoffs, but that is not “merit”. It is just privilege.

My uncle now has a 1.2 cr package and he works as a senior engineering manager at Microsoft. He completed his undergraduate degree in 2002 from NIT. He also helped both of his sons get job at Visa and Deloitte through referrals. He has 20 years + experience of working in the IT sector and has accumulated enough wealth to retire peacefully + he has 3 L / month rental income from property in blr. Both of his sons are doing great and have got jobs with their father's connection. People who joined IT before AI in the 2000s are the luckiest people.

But with 53 marks, I lost the permanent government Medical Officer job in Uttarakhand just because I am General category. I got 95% in 10th CBSE, 95.4% in 12th CBSE~PCMB. I cracked IIT, NEET UG, NEET PG, Indian Navy, many science olympiads and was a state level volleyball player. Now I am doing MD in Critical Care and Anesthesia from a government college, even after fighting 65% reservation all my life. My SC, ST, OBC friends who have cars, 100 bigha land and big rich houses got the permanent job with only half my marks. I am from a middle class family and still cannot buy a car or live a good life. India and Uttarakhand, you kicked out a hardworking doctor like me and gave the job to less deserving people only because of caste. You don’t deserve good doctors. I will now be working in big corporate hospitals like Medanta, Apollo and Fortis with good salary and probably enjoy a luxurious life after My PG gets over in 3 years. But you people will keep dying like cockroaches in dirty government hospitals. You will be treated like animals with no proper care. No doctors, no protocols, only suffering. You never fought against reservation. Now you will pay the price with your own lives and your family’s lives. This is not justice. This is pure murder of merit. You chose caste over talent. Enjoy the results.

He fought a six-year legal battle before being acquitted. But imagine the trauma, embarrassment, struggle, and stigma he and his family endured for no fault of theirs. UGC rules add an internal, low-threshold complaint route where allegations can trigger immediate academic or administrative action without rigorous scrutiny. Along with the SC/ST Act, this can be used to escalate pressure and settle scores faster.
