Here's the latest update on Earth albedo (reflectivity) with data from CERES through May, 2026, showing albedo maintaining status-quo near its record low.

To put this into layman terms, decreased reflection is one of the big reasons Earth is warming. The amount of reflected sunlight is going down, down, down. It is due to warming and less pollution. As the Earth warms there is less ice, thus less mirror-like surfaces to reflect sunlight. Also warmer air is found to result in less low clouds, which means less mirror-like clouds to reflect light. Also pollution has been decreasing. That means less particles to reflect sunlight back into space. It also means less particles for water to condense, meaning less clouds and less reflection. These all combine with greenhouse warming to result in a climate that, through feedbacks, has the potential to warm faster.
