This evening, the Executive Board of the College Republicans at UVA sent the following letter to President Mahoney and the Board of Visitors expressing concern over the recent statements from professors, teaching assistants, and students over the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

In memory of Charlie, I urge every major American university, especially the Ivy League and New England’s small liberal arts colleges, to invite conservative speakers to their campuses and to welcome them. Academia cannot be a no go zone for conservatives. Charlie would welcome this.
It will help heal the country if the liberal left that dominates colleges actively reaches out and peacefully welcomes the right.

“At BU, conservative students have long been marginalized, silenced by fear of social intimidation, academic penalty, or hostility. Many of our members feel they cannot openly affiliate with the College Republicans, and those who do are often met with slurs and false labels. Rather than fostering intellectual diversity, the university has allowed a single ideological perspective to dominate, leaving students of differing opinion isolated.”
“The celebration of Mr. Kirk’s death on platforms like YikYak and Reddit, including by individuals within the BU community, reveals how dangerous this environment has become.”
