@crentist_dds @DannyDrinksWine That all may be true just as much as 2001 is mentioned for the styling and visual aspects and AI parts, not for the clear plot (I agree on the last one) or Clockwork Orange for the costumes and violence there is much more to be enjoyed. Same here. But Kubrick is not for everyone.

@BV74 @DannyDrinksWine I’m not going to lie. While, I only causally follow file X, I see Barry Lyndon mentioned a lot but it’s pretty much always for the aesthetics or the lighting technique. This thread is the most discussion of the actual plot/story.

What have I just read?😂 I am sure there wouldn't be a single person on Earth (Who have seen all these movies) who would agree with this.

@crentist_dds @DannyDrinksWine Even if you don’t like British costume dramas then I still would recommend this movie. If you don’t understand the difference between a mediocre movie and a masterpiece that touches on so many aspects of life, love, suffering and self destruction, then maybe this is not for you.

@Vincentgdevlugt Mooi. Mijn grootouders hadden zo’n winkel in Leiden, opa ging met zo’n busje (Spijkstaal, toen al elektrisch!) langs de deuren. De SRV man reed in mijn buurtje in Leidschendam nog in deze eeuw zijn rondje. Gelukkig komt hier de groenteman nog langs en is er een melktap vlakbij.😅

In mijn jeugd kwam de melkboer aan de deur. Naast melk in flessen kon je ook andere zuivel en frisdrank verkrijgen. Nu zie je amper nog melk in flessen maar klopt het dat die lekkerder is omdat bij een pak, het verpakkingsmateriaal de smaak van de melk beïnvloedt? Of juist niet?

@MiesBee De man in het paarse jasje? Joost van Bellen, ooit een van de dj’s in de RoXY, hij oogt hier weliswaar als een beschonken deserteur uit Sgt Pepper’s maar de man heeft als organisator meer in zijn mars dan deze zelf gebreide en zalig verklaarde moeder Theresa van de nacht. Brrrr

@Vincentgdevlugt @DebbiedeVlugt Ik ben meestal zo fanatiek bij een pubquiz dat ik zelfs de bitterballen vergeet, maar helemaal zonder is natuurlijk pure armoe. Ik zou protest aantekenen bij de jury wegens spelbederf!

Nu pauze. @DebbiedeVlugt heeft me naar die pubquiz meegelokt dat er bitterballen zouden zijn maar geen ene vorm van bruin fruit gezien, voornamelijk klotevragen waar ik niks mee kan en had lekker op de bank kunnen liggen na een drukke dag. Maar sta hier. Lekker dan.

In 1798, a scientist effectively “weighed” the Earth — without leaving his laboratory. The English scientist Henry Cavendish designed an incredibly sensitive experiment. Inside a quiet wooden shed, he hung a horizontal rod from a very thin wire. Two small lead spheres were attached to the ends of the rod. Nearby, he placed two much larger lead balls. Because of gravity, the large spheres slightly pulled the smaller ones. The force was extremely tiny — so small that the rod twisted by only a minute fraction of a degree. Yet that tiny twist held a big secret. By carefully measuring this small movement, Cavendish determined the strength of the gravitational attraction between objects. From this, scientists could calculate the mass of the entire Earth. His estimate was remarkably close. Cavendish calculated Earth’s mass to be about 6 × 10²⁴ kilograms, while modern measurements give 5.97 × 10²⁴ kilograms. Sometimes the biggest discoveries come from measuring the smallest forces.

@boudewijnsteur Favorieten: Eerst 2001, op de voet gevolgd door A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Dr. Strangelove en Barry Lyndon, net als Paths of Glory en FMJ. Eigenlijk is zijn laatste de minste wmb maar het is nog steeds een prachtige en unieke film.

Op deze dag in 1999 overleed de invloedrijke Amerikaanse regisseur Stanley Kubrick. Hij maakte films als Paths of Glory, Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket, Dr Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Clockwork Orange en The Shining Jullie favoriete film van hem?

Geweldige kunstenaar die zichzelf ook niet zo serieus nam. Bij zijn naam moet ik meteen denken aan deze : ‘Does à la mi-carême’. Heerlijk.

“Woke” is een starre en vastgeroeste ideologie. Obsessief bezig met macht. Met taal. Maar ook met ras, geaardheid, en leeftijd. Laat weinig ruimte voor de mens in al diens complexiteit en individuele kwaliteiten. Het is oppervlakkig. Funest voor kunst en voor sociale samenhang.
