Good morning, NYC. The city is under an Extreme Heat Warning. Take it seriously. Heat kills more New Yorkers than any other type of weather. Shut drapes and blinds. Set your AC to the highest comfortable temperature setting. Drink water early and often. Wait until tonight to use energy-intensive appliances when it’s cooler & less strain on grid. If you’re outside, find shade and take frequent breaks. Check on neighbors. Know the signs of heat illness. These include dizziness, nausea, headache, confusion, and heavy sweating. Call 911 if someone shows these symptoms. If you see someone who may need shelter from the heat, call 311. The most important place to protect your health is in an air-conditioned Cool Option. This could be any air-conditioned space including your home, a neighbor’s, a mall, a café, a grocery store, or an NYC Cooling Center. Have a plan to go to a Cool Option.
