I got to play Jeopardy! 4x and led at the the end of Double every time. PhD in Drama and Theatre. Sometime runner. Looked mad in the background of Bar Rescue.

@dilanesper I too picked it up for them sharing the non-consecutive term trivia distinction, and I agree, the two men had/have very different ideas about how to use the office (I was wowed by the story of Cleveland returning a gift of a dog at his own expense for fear of owing the gifter)

I second that "A Man of Iron" is a great book. I read it after Trump won his second term (curious about any historical similarities with Cleveland-- it turned out there weren't any).

This is an amazing anecdote about Allen G. Thurmond, Grover Cleveland’s aged running mate in the (failed) election of 1888. This is up there with Admiral Stockdale’s “who am I, why am I here?”. Taken from @troy_senik ‘s A MAN OF IRON, bio of Cleveland (a quite good read).

@markyzaguirre @foster_type @troy_senik Definitely too bad he inadvertently came off as old and confused. I looked him up to make sure I had my reference correct and was reminded he was something of a philosopher and deserved better.

@DanielH87145164 @troy_senik For sure, but it’s amazing to be into the speech and be like, “a lot of people are saying I’m too old and weak, and you know what, I *do* feel pretty weak, peace out fellas”

$1.5 BILLION. Let me say it again - a $1.5 BILLION BET. Bigger than any futures purchases made at the time. 5 minutes before Trump's post. Who was it? Trump? A family member? A White House staffer? This is corruption. Mind blowing corruption.

BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market. In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold. These orders were 4–6x larger than anything else at the time. The trader seemingly made huge gains. Unusual.

Sometimes the most effective amici are the surprising ones. Magicians Penn & Teller (with the UT Clinic) just filed an amicus brief for a Texas death-row prisoner convicted partly on “hypnotically enhanced testimony,” arguing it’s the same technique they use to trick audiences.

@elaine_stritch I guess it’s a show within a show, but very surprised no one (as far as I have scrolled) has mentioned the showstopping “Springtime for Hitler”

@carlsraye @elaine_stritch Oh man, “Hellfire” is so good. I was so lucky to sing in the choir and hear Patrick Page sing it at the La Jolla Playhouse some years back. He was amazing.

@elaine_stritch Disney dominates the villain song category: Poor Unfortunate Souls, Hellfire, Gaston, Be Prepared. As far as songs written for the stage though, I’m personally a fan of World Burn from Mean Girls

Iran hit 16 vessels so far in Strait of Hormuz. That’s all it takes for Iran to control 20% of the world’s oil and become an oil hegemon — the number 1 strategic outcome US has sought to prevent in Middle East since 1970s. Iran is not weakening— it is gaining power.

In the Netherlands, if a person dies alone, without any family or friends as mourners, a poet will be sent to write a poem and read it at the burial service. It's called the Lonely Funeral Project, and it's just humans being good humans.
