@Noahp245 @twinhypeback Plus he was out of the lineup the last lefty they faced too

@B_Pollie_20 Yeah I don’t get it. He has an .842 OPS against lefties this year

@ChiSoxFanMike When pereira and jays returns I’d hope Acuna is for sure gone and that last spot is a tough call

@ChiSoxFanMike This OF situation gets more interesting every game. Derek hill making a strong case to stick around too
English

@ChiSoxFanMike All you gotta do is throw something over his eye level. Gets him every time

Davis Martin has outpitched Jose Soriano on two separate occasions yet is nowhere to be found on this list. Yeah ok.

Shohei Ohtani is atop the Pitcher Power Rankings for the first time this season 🔥 (MLB x @SageUSAmerica)

@ChiSoxFanMike I think he definitely needs a reset. I’m sure he is hating this right now. Letting the team down over and over again in big moments has to be tough on the mental
English

@whitesox @CaesarsSports Seems like a bit of a buzz kill lineup. Grichuk 4th? Acuna playing at all seems like a bad decision as well
English

@ElijahEv8 Wondering if he has any reason as to why his velocity seems to drop pretty quickly in his starts

The White Sox are quickly running out of starting pitching options in Charlotte, which means Anthony Kay’s rotation spot has never been safer ⬇️

@ChiSoxFanMike I feel bad for the guy. He knows he is gone soon and just has to go through the motions at this point. Maybe one day he can figure it out but for now he can’t be a major leaguer
English

@BoomedOnByBuzi @ChiSoxFanMike I would hope so. I’d love for him to be something with that speed but he has been about as bad as you can be at the plate and the field. But I think it’s time to move on. We have better options
English

@ChiSoxFanMike @B_Pollie_20 Yeah noticed acuna has been fazed out recently. Assuming a demotion is in play once pereira comes back
English

@whitesox @CaesarsSports Surely we are gonna pinch hit antonacci for Murray after one at bat right? Murray is a good team guy but he just doesn’t look like a major leaguer at the plate
English

@ChiSoxFanMike Newcomb too high. I woulda loved to see what happens today if romo doesn’t forget how to catch a slider
English

@ChiSoxFanMike Yeah it’s a slump. I still think he will come out of it but hard to watch. Looks like he has no confidence right now
English

@TripleAJeff Seems a little concerning plus the big limit they have him on seems odd. I’m thinking we don’t know the whole story.

I looked at the #s of Hagen Smith's 4-inning start on 4/16 to see how much, if any, he lost on his fastball as the game progressed. He was allowed to go more than 3 innings because he only needed 28 pitches thru the first 3 innings. (He had only gone 3 innings in each of his first 3 starts.)
In the first inning, he touched 96.7 mph with his fastball, 95.9 in the second inning and 95.4 in the third. But he needed 31 pitches to navigate the fourth inning, during which time his fastball was down about 1.5 ticks.

Hagen Smith made a start 2 nights ago in Charlotte, and it didn’t go well. So I went back this morning to check out the Statcast data to get a closer look.
Keep in mind that Hagen had made 4 previous starts in Charlotte, and they were all excellent. The problem is that were all short stints: he went 3 innings in 3 of them and 4 innings in the fourth. In those 13 innings, he gave up just 8 hits, 2 earned runs and 5 walks to go with 19 strikeouts.
Tuesday’s outing was a short one, just 2.1 innings. The problem was a 33-pitch 2nd inning when he lost the brilliant control that he flashed in the first inning. He was fastball/slider heavy in this outing, with just an occasional cutter and changeup, though the cutter was very effective when he used it.
Not only was the spotty control a problem, he also was losing velocity on his fastball. It was 96 in the first inning, 95/94 in the second, and down to 93/92 by the third.
Again, it is just one start against 4 strong ones. Let’s see what next week brings.
