#Netzero is a form of unilateral economic disarmament, anti-human. The world will be much poorer, less safe. Recognise the massive positive unique benefits hydrocarbons bring, then tell me how elimination of that 80% of world energy will not be a complete disaster for us all.

@KemiBadenoch Why was the Labour Govt so keen to have Mandelson appointed as Ambassador to Washington? Was it in fact *because* of his links to Epstein, rather than in spite of…?

We now have the Government response: Neither the PM nor 10 Downing Street nor the Cabinet Office knew the Foreign Office had decided to ignore the fact Mandelson had failed his security vetting. Call it the ‘know-nothing’ government. But it leaves a major question unanswered: why would the FO take it on itself to make such a huge judgement call — and not inform/consult Downing Street? What was in it for the FO? It hadn’t even necessarily wanted Mandy, unlike Starmer and the 10 Downing Street operation. Doesn’t add up.
Andrew Neil@afneil

BREAKING NEWS (with the potential to be massive): The Guardian reveals Peter Mandelson failed advanced security vetting before becoming US ambassador. He was initially denied developed vetting clearance in January 2025 - weeks after Keir Starmer had officially announced his appointment. Foreign Office was ‘encouraged’ to deploy a rarely-used power to override the recommendation from security officials. The Government promised total transparency on the Mandelson affair after MPs forced it to release of a batch of documents about the process. But nothing it has released reveals this startling fact. Indeed, Starmer has always insisted Mandelson was subject to 'security vetting, carried out independently by the security services, which is an intensive exercise that gave him clearance for the role'. Developing …

The shallowest of epiphanies at the BBC and Tory HQ -- as if they had nothing to do with the mess we're now in. They're trying to save Net Zero. Don't fall for it. "... is worse for the climate..." is a tell.
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

Must read from the BBC. As I’ve said many times, having the cleanest, most expensive electricity is WORSE for climate because then people don’t want to use electricity. For growth and the environment the best thing we can do is to… MAKE ELECTRICITY CHEAP!👇🏾 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Renewable electricity does not produce: petrol, diesel, bunker fuel, or jet fuel; it does not produce the feed stock for ammonia used to make fertilisers, or feedstocks for chemicals, pharmaceuticals or plastics; it does not produce bitumen, carbon fibres, armaments or ammunition; it does not produce the industrial heat needed to make cement, glass, aluminium, ceramics or steel. Claiming we shouldn't mine oil and gas in the UK because we won't be self sufficient is like suggesting we shouldn't produce any food because we won't be able to grow enough and would still need to import some. Caroline Lucas is NOT right.
Candice Holmes@hol40900

Caroline Lucas is right. North Sea output has collapsed, investment is falling off a cliff and new fields would take years to come online. Renewables already generate over half our electricity—and do it faster, cheaper, and without wrecking the climate.🌍

Keir Starmer said in February that the security services had given Mandelson “clearance for the role”. Now we discover that he has blatantly lied, the Prime Minister should resign. Vote Reform on May 7th to make it happen.

@KathrynPorter26 @BBCJustinR Fossil fuels have made the world unimaginably more liveable for humanity. We’re much more wealthy, healthy, living longer, safer, better fed, with leisure time to enjoy improved environments. Circa 8 billion folks rely on them. The net societal benefits are enormous.

@BBCJustinR... This article is great, except this... "Fossil fuels are cheap in part because their price does not reflect the damage they cause - from rising temperatures to impacts on health, property and the natural world" If you want to price the harms of hydrocarbons you also need to price their benefits eg to health where most medical equipment and drugs are made from oil bbc.com/news/articles/…

@Ed_Miliband Energy policy should be a national security issue. But we foolishly progress ever more reliance on expensive unreliable renewables, interconnector imports & demand reduction (aka rationing). Anything but secure reliable local generation. Better buy candles. #RepealtheCCA

I’m going to file this because no way will there be 400,000 new ‘clean energy jobs’ between now and 2030 — unless the definition is so wide as to be meaningless. So let’s set the base. How many ‘clean energy jobs’ are there now, early 2026, what’s the definition and the breakdown? Then we can monitor progress, or the lack thereof.
Ed Miliband@Ed_Miliband

Five new clean energy Technical Excellence Colleges will help train thousands of young people for the industries of the future. With 400,000 clean energy jobs set to be created by 2030, we’re investing in the skills needed for the next generation of jobs in our communities.

The CfD subsidy results for March 2026 are in. Despite elevated gas prices, we paid record subsidies for the month of March of >£258m, over £200m to offshore wind. Also a record 1st quarter with £797m of payments. Tell me again @ember_energy how renewables are saving us money.
