Why are you people so vulgar? I’ve lost track of all the EO people in the comments who are calling me a sodomite, a “pussy,” and any number of other evil things. You’re not doing much to dispel the stereotypes about your sect. I realize that I’ve just gored your sacred cow in public, but is it possible for any of you to be charitable towards fellow Christians? Maybe your routine absolutions are defective. Better try harder to tap into that divine energy.

If Jay Dyer couldn’t strawman Protestant theology, I doubt that he would have an audience. Absolutely no Calvinist believes in justification by assent to legal doctrines. The righteousness of Christ is imputed to us. This is monergistic, not synergistic, and it is the only way that we can stand before God. All Christians believe in sanctification, which is the Holy Spirit training us to hate our sinful desires and live in holiness. But the RC and EO blur justification and sanctification, leading them to believe that justification can be lost. When this happens, they need the made-up sacrament of penance to restore it. True repentance is not a ritual act to “satisfy” for sin. Penance is congruous merit, a parody of true repentance. Then purgatory had to be made up as a system to “pay off” temporal guilt. This leaves them bouncing between despair over obviously insufficient works and a false security through rituals. This all stems from the denial of justification by faith alone. If faith is insufficient, the merit of works is required. If the merit of works is required, justification can be lost. If justification can be lost, there is no assurance of salvation. Protestant doctrine is justification apart from the MERIT of works, not the existence of works. When we are justified by God, all of our sins, past present and future, are forgiven. Abraham was justified by being counted (imputed) righteous while still ungodly (Romans 4), not through progressive deification through works. In 2 Peter 1:4, “partakers of the divine nature” is better understood through union with Christ and the indwelling Spirit, not ontological deification. We are conformed to the likeness of Christ (Rom. 8:29), but we do not become like God by nature. If we participated in God’s essence or immanent being (ousia), the distinction between God and man would be abolished. A lot of this sacerdotalist confusion comes from the Latin Vulgate. The Latin word for justification is iustificare. This comes from the noun iustus, meaning justice or righteousness, and the verb facare, meaning to make. The Latin fathers understood this to mean that God MAKES unrighteous people righteous. One of Luther’s great insights from the Septuagint is that the Greek word dikaiosune doesn’t mean to make righteous, but rather to regard as righteous, to count as righteous, to declare as righteous. God is in this sense granting righteousness to those who don’t innately deserve it. This means that the righteousness by which we are saved is iustitia alienum, an alien righteousness; a righteousness that belongs properly to someone else. It’s a righteousness that is extra nos, outside of us. Luther said, “When I discovered that, I was born again of the Holy Ghost. And the doors of paradise swung open, and I walked through.” Iustificare (to justify) and iustitia (righteousness/justice) are the best Latin equivalents for dikaiosune, but they don’t adequately capture the full meaning. As Luther realized, dikaiosune righteousness is imputed (forensic, being declared righteous before God), whereas iustitia righteousness is imparted (making the ungodly righteous internally).

Can we get a Protestant on Tucker who actually represents us accurately without the strawmen? Jay Dyer (Orthodox) reduces the Calvinistic/Reformed view of salvation to "mere mental assent" — with the only change being God's disposition toward a person. That's not what any Protestant teaches, other than the hyper free-grace OSAS antinomian fringe. We teach justification by faith alone in Christ: a sinner goes from hating God to repenting and trusting Him. This is a real spiritual regeneration by God's grace alone, not just rubber-stamping an individual as "saved" and sending him on his way. Yes, we are legally declared righteous at the moment of faith: Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. But Scripture also teaches sanctification — not as a means to achieve salvation, but as a byproduct of becoming a new creation in Christ: 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Those whom God justifies in Christ, He will also glorify: Romans 8:30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

@needGod_net Yo. Theology and stuff aside, this is probably the gayest music I have ever heard. I think anyone I showed this to would just end up despising Christianity more than they already do.

Wow this really has your panties in a bunch huh? Hey go preach at a prison and then boast about it for affirmation again! “Look at me look how good I am! Unlike those unregenerate orthodox!” And I thought you didn’t believe in free will, if free will doesn’t exist you really can’t be upset with the Orthodox because it’s not their fault it’s god pulling the strings numbnuts.

If you want to serve God, prepare your heart not for food, not for drink, not for rest, not for ease, but for suffering, so that you may endure all temptations, trouble and sorrow. Prepare for severities, fasts, spiritual struggles and many afflictions, for “by many afflictions is it appointed to us to enter the Kingdom of Heaven” (Acts 14,22); ‘The Heavenly Kingdom is taken by force, and the who use force seize it.’ (Matt 11:12)- St. Sergius of Radonezh

That’s ok you don’t have to be polite, you can call me or think I’m reprobate lol it doesn’t bother me, but on a personal note I fell in love with the God described in the Gospels I listen to or read a Gospel a day the whole thing, the God that desires the salvation of all men the God that is merciful and loving, I believe in one God the Father almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth and of all things visible and invisible and in one Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God the only begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages Light of Light True God of True God, that’s the God I love and desire to obey and follow as best as I can even if I’m faced with death I hope my faith is strong enough to be killed for him, that’s the God I discovered in the Orthodox Church, Thank you for the conversation Lizzie I will say a prayer for you God bless, I’m sure we’ll disagree again but know that I am hopefully doing it out of love 🙏🏻☦️

I would not call you a reprobate today. I do not know if it is in God’s will to save you or if you already are. If you truly do love God, then you are born again and saved. No reprobate can love God. However, the situation can be complicated when someone claims to love God but it is really just a false god they love. An example we both agree with is a Mormon, or oneness Pentecostal. They claim to love Jesus Christ, but they do not really. They love a false “Jesus” who cannot save. Or the judaizers. They claimed to love and believe Jesus, but they really didn’t. They followed a false Jesus who said that to be saved, you had to be circumcised. Many people say they love Jesus, but they do not. They love a false god of their own making.
