@misterminsoo Interesting to use DJ Rashad in this context. I can tell you all of us working with him when he passed felt like "Double Cup" was a first step to the cusp of an absolutely massive breakthrough - that he was going to rewrite the rules in a way that no one could predict.

Love this film. To put it in music terms, LOVE HOTEL is to pinku films as DJ Rashad’s Double Cup is to footwork: bigger budget, more accessible, has greater “artistic merit” in the eyes of the lay person but is still undeniable. Shinji Somai was so versatile.

I’m sad so much sacred New York knowledge is lost. Like how to walk between people in a giant crowd at lightning speed, subway seat hierarchies and etiquette, bialys, borough segregation, the games kids played on the street. That was passed down to me and I consider it sacred.

@fieldinghope Agreed "experimental" has become a lazy catch all & is oftenmisapplied. I think people need to go back to things like Pierre Schaeffer's diaries in 'In Search of a Concrete Music' to understand what experimentation really is. Always reminds that failure is a very BIG part of it.

I programme a space for it 365 days a year, so I don't in any way see myself above this, but there's a lot of beige, self-satisfied music that passes as "experimental music" atm. Everyone kind of knows this but we never talk about it? Anyway, it's nice to see ruptures happen.

Quite a lot of people walked out of the show last night at OTO, with a lot of people commenting after how much they hated it. It was difficult, not transgressive or "edgy". Would like to see a lot more of that in "experimental music" today!
