To me, turning the lights off when you're not using them to avoid wasting electricity is just basic common sense. Are Americans really so addicted to needless consumption?

I just came back to my Airbnb in France. It’s 96° outside and 104° inside. No AC. The woman was angry because one of the light was left on, and “they pay for it”. Have a lot of empathy for your French friend. People are surprisingly poor there and the struggle created by socialism is unbelievable for the average American.

@Badgerpawn @Molycuddle Simply sunshades on the outside already drastically reduce the heat inside as well.
I also cannot afford to install AC in my house, let alone pay the electric bill after they are up and running. And if my whole neighborhood would get ac, the electrical grid will collapse.

What are you talking about?
People are critical of America’s solution to just ‘air condition the heatwave away’ because of the electricity cost and environmental damage mass AC use would entail.
Also, Europe has AC, and the places that don’t, didn’t need them 10 years ago

@Badgerpawn @Molycuddle AC doesn't do anything for outdoors for example, but trees, plants etc are all things that will help reduce temperatures and that's an example of things that can be done. Nationalising energy or uncoupling electricity from the price of gas because why are they linked anyway

It’s very clear that most Americans don’t understand global soccer culture when they’re like “it’s a meaningless game” the World Cup only happens every 4 years and a lot of teams don’t qualify. A win on the world stage means a lot for a country
