Thank you so much to everyone who came to, watched, supported, donated to, or even spread the word of - this year’s Metal And Honey show! It was truly the best year yet with all the incredible performers: Jazel (aka black card films aka trivium’s content machine!), Jody (aka trivium supporter of 20 years who helped create our first worldwide fan club), and Orca Mind (my super talented sister’s band with Josiah). Thank you to Full Sail, FS teachers, FS staff, FS students - for creating a truly incredible event and experience. Thank you to all the Trivium supporters who tuned in world wide, flew in from around the world; thank you to our fellow Orlandoans; our nearest and dearest friends and family; my incredible Kiichi Chaos Crew Twitch community; my Twitch mods from coming in from everywhere; my BJJ family; my Yoga family; Orlando Health; APH; all our sponsors; and Stephen Dinon for bringing all this together (you wore the hats of 25 jobs making this happen - thank you so much Stephen). The setlist was a blast, and I can tell all the mental work I’ve been doing on myself this last year has paid off… I’m no longer “in my head” while performing; I feel like my singing is unrestrained, unbridled - Ashley even said she can tell you can’t “hear me thinking” in my singing / and that’s really been something that’s been a destructive force to me for the last decade. Playing MCR, Linkin Park, BFMV, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, REM, Radiohead and more was so fun. We’ll be releasing each song to my YouTube soon enough. I started singing and screaming in Trivium around the year 2000 or so. When I first joined the already 2 week old local band Trivium, I was just the lead guitar player. When our original singer left, after fruitless searches for a singer, Travis said to me: “you’re gonna be the singer now.” For the next 15 or so years, I would sing and scream however I could - trying to discover my style and sound (which I felt quickly showed itself - only I didn’t have the proper technique down). The voice held till 2014 with this “technique” till I finally blew it out. We discovered it was a combination of incorrect technique and not knowing how to warm up or train or practice. For the next 10 years, I trained under Ron Anderson, unlearning the bad habits and rigorously training 5-7 days a week, 1-4 hours a day to get the proper training. About 2-3 months ago, under the encouragement of Ashley, Justin my manager, Paolo, Corey, and Alex - I started working back at trying to find a way to make the “old techniques” work sustainably under the training of the “new techniques”. Well, it worked. After 26 years of singing and screaming, I can confidently say that I can sing and scream better than I ever have. The grit is tougher than the Shogun grit, the screams are more menacing than Ascendancy, the cleans more powerful and with range than ever.
