Shri Shani Dev who is the brother of Shri Yamarāja, is like this ash (in the end our body also turns into ashes). In the transit or during Śrī Śani daśa , it clears the impurity of your inner self like this ash. In this Dasha, Sade Sati etc. what is snatched from you, for which you cry and get frustrated, are actually your sins which are separated from you by Śrī Shani, so that you can again shine like a brand-new vessel. When this ash is heated many times, it becomes white, which is applied on the head, so that vice do not enter the head in the form of thoughts. This is the complete Sātvika form of Śrī Shani dev. Kancana kāminī & brahmacārī (Reposted) A guru and his śiṣya were travelling to a hermitage and they had to cross a river for that. When they reached the bank, they saw a courtesan (woman) clad in beautiful clothes and jewellery. She was not crossing the river as she feared of getting wet. She requested the Guru to help her cross the river. The Guru asked her to sit on his shoulder and then he crossed the river. The śiṣya was surprised but did not say anything. When they reached the hermitage, the guru started preparing for his Dhyāna. The śiṣya was not able to control his feelings and asked his guru: “You are a pious person and a brahmacārī, how can you carry that woman on your shoulders, don’t you feel that it is wrong” The guru smiled and replied: “I dropped the body on the other side and you are still carrying her weight” Brahmacārī- brāhmaṇa (Pure consciousness), cārī (Moving) - Therefore, it means ‘one who lives in constant awareness of Brahman;’ ‘one whose awareness is absorbed in pure consciousness, whose mind is above the duality of male/female, who sees the atman in all.’ One who is in constant communion with the atma is a brahmacārī. He is above kancana (Wealth) and Kāminī (Amorous woman). It is the story of life, you carry the burden of shad ripu. The lesser the baggage you have the easier will be the travelling.

The Man Who Has Treasure Does Not Keep It on the Road Real Vidyā Is Never Thrown in the Bazaar The rules for Jyotiṣa, Vāstu, Tantra, Mantra and Devatā Vidyā. The man who owns treasure hides it. The man who owns dust throws it in the air If a man owns real treasure, he will never keep it on a public street. He will not place gold, gems and wealth in the open and then invite the whole world to look at it. He will keep it hidden, locked and protected from thieves, greedy eyes and careless hands. This is simple common sense. Anything precious is guarded. Anything powerful is not exposed without reason. The same rule applies to Jyotiśa, Vāstu, Tantra, Mantra and Devatā Vidyā. If a person truly possesses real vidyā, he will not throw it openly in the public like today’s so-called Paramparā people, saptarishi , lunar experts, babas and online teachers are doing. What is being displayed everywhere in the name of secret knowledge is definitely anything but knowledge. Real knowledge does not behave like a public tamasha. Real Vidyā Is Always Gupta Śāstra does not treat vidyā as casual information. It is not something to be posted, forwarded, sold and displayed before everyone. Real vidyā is guhya, Rahasya and gupta. It is hidden because it has śakti. It is protected because it can harm when given to the wrong person. Real Treasure Is Never Found in the Open Street or on YouTube The man who owns treasure hides it. The man who owns dust throws it in the air. This one line is enough to understand the difference between real vidyā and public display. So, when someone says that he is openly giving secret Jyotiṣa, secret Vāstu, secret Tantra, secret mantra and paramparā knowledge to everyone, one should not become impressed immediately. One should quietly ask: is this really knowledge, or is it only decorated information? Śāstra is clear. Knowledge is not denied to the worthy. But it is never thrown before the uninitiated. Real vidyā is given through Guru, adhikāra, dīkṣā, sevā and śraddhā. That is why it remains powerful. That is why it remains gupta. Guru Is Necessary, Not Public Display The Maṇḍūka Ūpaniśad says: तद्विज्ञानार्थं स गुरुमेवाभिगच्छेत् समित्पाणिः श्रोत्रियं ब्रह्मनिष्ठम्॥ For higher knowledge, one must approach a Guru who is śrotriya and brahma-niṣṭha. It does not say that one should collect techniques from social media, attend random workshops, or learn mantra and tantra from people who are hungry for followers. Śāstra says Guru. And Guru does not mean a public entertainer. Guru means one who has adhikāra, Anubhav and responsibility. In Bhagavad Gītā, Śrī Kṛṣṇa clearly says: इदं ते नातपस्काय नाभक्ताय कदाचन। न चाशुश्रूषवे वाच्यं न च मां योऽभ्यसूयति।। This means that such knowledge should not be spoken to one who has no tapas, no bhakti, no willingness to listen, and one who has a fault-finding nature. Bhagavān himself is saying that the wrong person should not be given such upadeśa. Then how can every online seller and public performer claim that secret vidyā should be taught to anyone ? The Gītā also says: तद्विद्धि प्रणिपातेन परिप्रश्नेन सेवया। उपदेक्ष्यन्ति ते ज्ञानं ज्ञानिनस्तत्त्वदर्शिनः।। Here the method is clear: praṇipāta, paripraśna and sevā. Knowledge is not taken by curiosity. It is not taken by arrogance. The disciple must become fit. Only then real upadeśa has meaning. Tantra Without Adhikāra Is Dangerous Tantra is even more strict because tantra deals directly with śakti. A mantra, yantra, prayoga or devatā paddhati is not a toy. In the wrong hand it becomes poison. The same fire which cooks food can burn the house. The same knife which saves life in the hand of a surgeon can kill in the hand of a fool. This is why tantra insists on adhikāra, dīkṣā, śuddhi, niyama and Guru-upadeśa. Without these, what remains is not tantra. It becomes ego, greed, fear business and sometimes direct downfall. Today people want tantra without tapas, mantra without śuddhi, devatā without bhakti, and siddhi without discipline. This is not vidyā. This is only spiritual greed wearing religious clothes. Why Śāstra Keeps Knowledge Secret Jyotiṣa can guide a person towards dharma, karma, devatā sambandha and proper remedy. But when it goes into the hands of the unfit, it will lead to wrong assessment, non-working parihāra and fear mongering. Vāstu can help balance subtle flow and space. But in the wrong hands, it becomes superstition, house-breaking drama and mental torture. Tantra can connect a sādhaka with śakti. But when handled by egoistic people, it becomes show-off, manipulation and dośa. That is why śāstra keeps such knowledge hidden. The ṛṣis were not selfish. They were careful. They knew that powerful things cannot be given to everyone. Vidyā must be given only where there is adhikāra. Otherwise, the receiver is harmed, the vidyā is insulted, and the giver also takes dośa. give me darshan...' But no… Periyava did not come. Two days later, He gave me darshan in a dream. "Periyava’s darshan was given to me frequently in the earlier times. Nowadays Periyava never comes", I told Him sorrowfully. Periyava smiled slowly. Only you should come to see me." "If Periyava's anugraham (blessing) is there, I will come." "Will you come for the utsavam (festival)?" "I will surely come if there is anugraham." The dream vanished. Nothing was intelligible. Which festival should I go to? What is the connection between it and Periyava’s darshan? The surprising event happened the very next day. My Periamma (mother's elder sister) had to attend a marriage in Chennai. "You come with me," she said. "If you come, on the way we can have darshan of Periyava in Kanchipuram." I was ready the next minute! When we reached the entrance of Kanchipuram Matham the next day, Goddess Kamakshi who had come in a procession was standing there. There was a very large crowd. All the three Periyavas were going around the Goddess. "What is the speciality today?" I asked a local woman. "Don't you know? Kamakshi Kovil utsavam is going on." I don't have to narrate how I would have felt then. "Come for the utsavam?" was not a mere dream; deiva sankalpam (divine will)! *** *** *** Having monthly darshan became my routine (from then on). Every time I went I would submit some thing such as a garland or kireetam (crown) of cardamoms. A motivation to submit some article that can be used by Periyava came to me. In those days, when Periyava sat down, they would place a wooden plank on the wall for Him to lean on. It seemed to me that leaning on the wooden plank would not be comfortable, so something that gave comfort to Him could be made and offered to Him. 'Shall keep some sponge on the plank and cover it with velvet? Or will a layer of wool be necessary?'--thoughts streamed by when sitting in Periyava's presence. At that time Periyava who was conversing with His assistant Chandramouli said in continuance of the conversation, "To lean on I need only wool." I had the answer! During my darshan the next month, I submitted a plank covered with sponge and knitted with the threads of wool to cover it. That moment when Periyava leaned His back on it gives me a permanent darshan!!! Later the personal assistants told me: "The woolen plank you gave is very useful. To use it in His mena for His one hour japam, Periyava specifically asks for it!" Had Periyava wished, the Maharajas would have offered Him a golden plank. What I submitted was a mere wooden plank! One hand is not enough to write down Periyava's limitless compassion; many hands would be required! Experiences with Maha Periyava: The Mahaan Who Blessed me with a Blissful Shower Of Grace!!! Sri Maha Periyava leaning on a wooden plank and stretching His holy feet is a scene that everyone could witness. His feet would remain stretched specifically when He was giving darshan sitting inside His mena (palanquin). 'Why not make a cushion on which Periyava might keep His feet?' I bought some airy, light, soft sponge made of rubber and cut it into a wide circle; covered it with a velvet cloth and stiched it in place in the form of an eight-petalled lotus flower with a different colour at the centre and decorated the edges with laces. When I went for darshan of Periyava, He was sitting inside His mena. My mother and I submitted the sponge preparation to Periyava. (That is, we kept it on the floor adjacent to the mena). Periyava said, "ashta-dalam (eight-petalled)?" as He took away His feet from inside the mena and kept them on the velvet pada-peetham (foot rest). We experienced a shiver of ecstasy within our heart. Without saying, "Alright, keep it here and go", as a way of immediately accepting the article we offered with bhakti, He kept His holy feet on it! What greater bhagyam could be there than this one? An assistant was standing by the side of Periyava. "You know the Lalita Sahasranama Dhyana Shlokam?" After a minute's thinking the assistant started with 'Arunam Karunataramgitaksim...'". "Another..." "'Sinduraruna Vigraham...'" "That's it! Look, there is a Vidvan (Pandit) standing there. Go and ask him about the meaning of the 'Ratnaghatastha-Raktacharanam' that occurs in this shlokam (verse)..." The assistant went to the Pandit and came back. "He said the meaning was 'Ambal keeping her ruddy feet on the water-pot made of precious stones...'". Another Vidvan was standing adjacent to the mena. Looking at him, Periyava said: "Sastrigal! There was a doubt lingering in my mind for a long time. Which is ‘Why should Ambal be keeping her feet on a ghatam (water-pot)?’ Seems that doesn't go quite well here, right?" The Pandit nodded his head with humility in affirmation. (He did not want to take the chance of 'What meaning would you attribute?' from Periyava!) "That doesn't seem apt here, right?" "Yes..." "Now, after looking at this pada-peetham, my doubt simply ran away!" Periyava explained: "It would be right to say that Ambal is keeping her ruddy feet on a ‘pada-peetham’ such as this one. It seems to me that removing the 'ghatastha' and substituting it with 'patastha' would look alright. ‘patam’ means cloth, so a soft pada-peetham. The padam (term) that was initially 'patastha' could have become in the custom of speech 'ghatastha', it seems to me. We should consider the 'patastha' which means 'on a cloth' as a sama-vachakam (equivalent) of 'on a woolen cloth' (because that should be smooth without hurting the feet!)." None of us (including the Pandit) recovered from the astonishment we had (after hearing that)! "I was thinking it over for a long time. I understood once I looked at this." This velvet pada-peetham! Periyava says His doubt was solved by a simple offer from an innocent person like me who stood on the last row without any sort of qualifications. The gush of the tears of joy in me has not stopped yet nor did Periyava's blissful shower of grace stop with that! *** *** *** Those were the days when I was studying in a college. The time when I had only known about Periyava in general with no special bhakti. Suddenly He gave me darshan in a dream! I couldn't push it away as some sort of imagination. He came and gave me darshan often. Should I not give an honour to these holy dreams? I took up fasting on Guruvaram (Thursdays). From that time I got darshan on every Thursday. It was a very happy experience but it did not last long. Suddenly Periyava stopped coming. What mistake did I commit for that? It was a Thursday. Sitting on my bed, I prayed closing my eyes: 'At least today Periyava should

Experiences with Maha Periyava: Periyava's super memory and knowledge This story was related to me by one of my patients from Coimbatore. Sometime in the 1960s when Maha Periyaval visited Coimbatore, this gentleman offered poornakumbham as Periyaval came along the road. He told the Paramacharya “Periyaval may not remember but on the same road thirty years ago my father too offered poornakumbam to you when you came. Maha Periyaval said “Yes, but were you not living in the opposite house at that time, and not in the present house?” For such a memory, the word superhuman is an understatement. Once by accident we overheard a history and geography lesson at Kurnool. We were standing outside one of the huts of the Mutt camp and could faintly hear a teacher giving lot of details about the people, history, religion, languages, customs and livelihood of the inhabitants of Cambodia and Thailand. We presumed that probably one of the Vedic teachers was coaching his son studying in high school. A few minutes later Maha Periyaval came out of the hut, and we learnt that He had been talking to Bala Periyaval who had been initiated into sanyasa just a few days earlier. We marvelled at the extensive knowledge of Maha Periyaval in so many different fields. MahaPeriyaval’s wide knowledge and deep understanding of many subjects was phenomenal. Once when He was camping at Sivasthanam near Kancheepuram, we had gone there for darshanam. One devotee came and submitted a short printed summary of a Physics dissertation. He said he would be submitting the thesis to the Madras University shortly and prayed for Periyaval’s blessings for the PhD degree. It was a highly technical subject. Maha Periyaval went through the booklet of about twenty pages rapidly for a few minutes and put it aside and gave him prasadam. After some time when the devotee had gone away, He turned to me. His Holiness: “You take this booklet, go to that tree’s shade, sit down there, study it carefully and then come back and tell me the gist of it”. I took the booklet and spent nearly half an hour over it. I came back to Maha Periyaval. His Holiness: Have you studied and understood it. I replied: Yes. His Holiness: “Then tell me what it is all about”. I began to explain. After two or three minutes Maha Periyaval interrupted me. His Holiness: “I do not agree with what you say. Are not the two statements in the second para on the first page and the first para on the fourth page contradictory to each other? Go and read it again”. I was thunderstruck. I took the booklet to the shade of the tree again and read through it. I found that what Maha Periyaval said was absolutely correct. What discrepancy I could not find out in a scientific dissertation after studying it for half an hour, Maha Periyaval had detected in a couple of minutes in the midst of giving darshanam to several devotees! I realized He was only testing me and may be very gently pricking the bubble of my ego! Experiences with Maha Periyava: Periyava’s insight When Periyava camped for long at the Kolla Chatram in Kanchipuram, He would bathe every day in the tank at the Sri Kacchabeshwara temple. The Puranas say that taking a holy dip in that tank on the Mondays of the Karthika month gives one great merit. So, on one such day, a Karthika Somavara (during 16 Nov to 15 Dec on a Monday), Periyava bathed in the temple tank and went into the temple for darshan of the deity. A devotee from Chennai who had joined the retinue of devotees walking with Periyava, prayed that he may be commanded to leave so that he could visit the Ekambaranatha temple. “Today is the Monday of the month of Karthika. Siva-darshan on such a day gives infinite merit. There are many Siva-temples in Kanchipuram. Visit as many as possible. I am aging. It is not possible for me to visit all the temples. The most ancient temple in this prithvi kshetra is the Sri Kacchabeshwara temple. They say that it was only after this temple was constructed and consecrated that the Ekambareshwara temple was built. This city, is known by many names such as Kacchimudur, Kacchi Ekambaram and so on, all of which have been derived from the name of the deity Kacchabeshwara. It is said that ‘Kacchi’ became Kanchi in Sanskrit. The devotee from Chennai was a very learned man. He was amazed at Periyava’s knowledge of such historical facts. The close attendants of course know that Periyava knew not only the history of Kanchi but indeed of the whole world. कम से कम दैवज्ञ के सामने तो वैसे ही दिखते हैं, जैसा उनका असली रूप होता है | The buried corpses of your karma, Praśna and natal chart. Very often, it is seen that a person’s birth chart does not match the praśna chart at all. This usually happens when the person, or the person’s ancestors, have spent years oppressing others and harming many living beings. While living through lies, adultery, cunning behavior, deception, and fraud, such people begin to believe that no one is watching them. But nothing remains hidden from the eyes of God. These are the same people who stand before the astrologer and try to present themselves as simple, kind, and innocent. And in Kaliyuga, this has become very common. Many people who visit temples and perform charity believe that the deceit they have carried within them has remained hidden from the world. They think that the suffering they are facing, the unseen forces troubling them, and the darkness created by their own actions can somehow be removed through remedies. They believe that the corpses of the deeds they buried deep inside the earth will never let their stench rise to the surface, as if they had not planted sin, but seeds of fragrant flowers. But that is not how it happens. Those buried corpses become spirits and continue to torment their entire lineage. For years, they rise again and again like Raktabīja. Such deeds cannot be corrected by any astrologer. The mask of civility remains only a mask. At least in the front of the ḍaivagya, where their actual devilish tendencies appear in true form only.

Experiences with Maha Periyava: Where did the cow go? The camp of SriMatham was at Tiruvidaimarutur. Every morning the Go puja would be performed before the start of the Sri Chandramouleeswara puja. A completely black-hued cow was maintained by the Matham for this purpose. One morning the black-hued cow did not come for the puja. Another one was brought. The worship concluded. Periyava sent word for the Karvar. Venkataramaiyyer came and prostrated to Periyava. “Where is the black-hued cow?” “It is missing since last evening. Seems to have broken loose and run away. It was not to be found in spite of our searching far and wide. Men have gone out today also.” Periyava completed His anushtana and set out from the Matham. No one knew where He was going. He walked down all the roads and finally reached the street where the peasants lived. The inhabitants there were surprised. They prostrated to Him as He walked down their quarters. As Periyava walked surrounded by the devotees, past a particular house, the mooing of a cow in a loud voice, “amma .. ma …” could be heard. Periyava stopped walking and set for the Karvar. As soon as he came Periyava said, “Go in and fetch our cow.” The Karvar went in and finding the black-hued cow tied to a post there, brought it out to Periyava. Periyava stroked the cow affectionately. The peasant to whom the house belonged, came out and prostrated to Periyava. “I did not know that this cow belonged to the Matham. It was grazing in my fields. So I caught it and tied it here. You must forgive me,” he said in a pleading voice and fell at Periyava’s feet. Periyava spoke to him affectionately with laughter all over His face. “You have struggled hard to raise the grain in your field. The cow from the Matham has grazed there and caused you a loss. So you caught the cow and tied it up. You have done nothing wrong. It is we who did not take sufficient care of the cow. It has eaten your grain. We should pay you compensation for this.” The peasant, his wife and children prostrated to Periyava. The peasant said, “Sami, please do not say such a thing. I did not know that the cow grazing in our fields belonged to the Matham. So I tied it up. The harvest will be bountiful because the Matham’s cow has grazed in my fields. That is enough, there is no need of any compensation.” Periyava appreciated the refinement of the peasant, looked at him intently and gave him prasadam. Experiences with Maha Periyava: Give Due Importance To The Village Diety A devotee once voiced his sorrow to Periyava. “The Siva temple in our village has not been renovated for long. Nor has the temple been sanctified by ashtabandhana. If anyone comes forward to renovate it he is faced with hurdles of all kinds. So many fear to take on the responsibility.” Sri Maha Swamigal replied, “There is a grama devata, a female deity in your village. Let the village as a whole hold a special festival, perform abhisheka and worship the deity in an elaborate manner. Drape a new cloth on the deity and make a food-offering of sweet rice (sakkarai pongal). You may then begin the renovation of the Siva temple.” The devotee conveyed Periyava’s instruction to the village. The people of the village realised their lapse. Convening a meeting at once, they decided on an auspicious day for the event and held a grand festival in honour of the deity of their village. While the festivities were going on, a girl possessed of the deity’s divine spirit, shouted, “I am happy! I am happy” and fell down unconscious. The renovation of the Siva temple was completed later without a hitch. This was followed by the kumbhabhisheka, which was also a grand success. Sri Maha Periyava had a great regard for village deities. He would say, “One has to struggle hard to meet the Collector of a town, submit one’s petition to him and get the orders issued. But it is easy to meet the Tahsildar or a subordinate official and get the orders. In case he cannot do it, he will put you on the right track. He will recommend your case.” Narrated by SriMatham Balu Mama Source: Maha Periyaval Darisana Anubhavangal, Vol-3 Compiled by Jagadguru Sri Maha Periyava - Kanchi Paramacharya/Fb

Experiences with Maha Periyava: Periyava resolves the issue amicably There were two brothers, inheriting their ancestral land, the northern and southern portions, which had to be divided between the two of them. The southern portion was more fertile and yielded more while the northern one was less productive. Both wanted the southern portion and there was a quarrel over the division of the land. Neither would give in and the quarrel worsened. Both refused to come to any kind of compromise, like drawing lots or something like that. The younger brother wielded clout locally and so he got a band ready to support his claim over the southern portion. Suddenly one day, Periyava went to that village in the dead of the night and lay down on the pyol of the elder brother’s house. No one was aware of this. That night, the younger brother came with some of his henchmen who wielded scythes, and on reaching the house of his elder brother was shocked to see Periyava’s palanquin near the house. Periyava was seated on the pyol. Summoning the man closer, Periyava asked, “Who are these with you?” The man was stunned and stood speechless in fear. Then sending word to their agent, Periyava asked him what the matter was. After listening to the whole story, Periyava said, “Listen! You can take the whole of it, the northern and southern portions. Take everything. I will take care of your elder brother. It does not matter that he gets nothing . . .” The man fell down in prostration and said, “I don’t need a share at all, Periyava . . . What does it matter, northern and southern portions . . .” “Then why these scythes? Come, slice my neck off, come on, here it is….” Then Periyava called the two brothers and said, “Take what you want of the land.” The elder one said, “Let my brother take what he wants, Periyava.” The younger one said, “I am ready to go by whatever my elder brother says.” The whole thing fizzled out to nothing at all! Experiences with Maha Periyava: Who recorded the Vishnu Sahasranamam? Once, way back in the 1940's or 50's, someone was interviewing Sri Maha Periyava. That gentleman recorded the interview using a tape recorder. Periyava then posed a question, “Does anyone know which is the oldest known tape recorder?” Nobody was able to answer. Then Sri Maha Periyava asked another question, “How did Vishnu Sahasranamam come to us?” Someone said Bheeshma Pitamah gave it to us. All agreed. Then Sri Maha Periyava posed another question, “When all were listening to Bheeshma on the battlefield, who took the notes at Kurukshetra?” Again silence. Sri Maha Periyava explained… “When Bheeshma Pitamah was glorifying Krishna with Sahasranamam, everyone was looking at him including Sri Krishna and the sage, Veda Vyasa. After he finished the 1000 Namas, all opened their eyes. The first to react was Yudhistirar. He said, ‘Pitamah has chanted 1000 glorious names of Vasudeva. All of us listened to it but none of us have noted it down. The sequence is lost'. Then all turned to Sri Krishna and asked for His help. As usual He said, ‘I was also listening like the rest of you. What can we do?’ Then all beseeched Sri Krishna to help them recover the precious rendition. Then Sri Krishna said, ‘It can only be done by Sahadeva and Vyasa will write it down.’ Everyone wanted to know how Sahadeva could do it. Krishna replied, ‘Sahadeva is the only one amongst us wearing the Shuddha Sphatika. If he prays to Shiva and does dhyanam, he can convert the Sphatika into waves of sound and Vyasa can write it down. Then both Sahadeva and Vyasa sat in the same place under Bheeshma Pitamah, where he had recited the Vishnu Sahasranamam. Sahadeva started doing the dhyanam to recover the sound waves from the Sphatika. The nature of Sphatika is that it will capture sounds in a calm environment which can be got back with proper dhyanam of Maheswara who is Swethambara and Sphatika. So, the world’s earliest tape recorder is this Sphatika which gave us the wonderful Vishnu Sahasranamam. When Sri Maha Periyava explained this all were stunned… From the Sphatika recording, the grantha came to us through Veda Vyasa. Compiled by Jagadguru Sri Maha Periyava - Kanchi Paramacharya/Fb

avatar or that. Do you know what Nagamma has written? She says, ‘He is the omnipresent, omnipotent Self, and is born to show us the path for realisation of the Self’. Where is Vijayawada and where is Arunachala? She has come from there and is staying here all alone. What can we say about this? The nature of people reveals itself according to their samskaras. Nagamma’s samskaras are like that.” (TO BE CONTINUED) Photos: 1) Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi; 2) Suri Nagamma. Source- FB wall of Sri Ravi Sridhar

RAMANA'S SABARI – SURI NAGAMMA Suri Nagamma (1902-1980) was a staunch devotee of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. She belonged to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh). Nagamma came to Tiruvannamalai in 1941 and made her home here. She is well-known for her 273 letters in Telugu, written during the years1945-1950 at the behest of her elder brother, who was a bank executive and a devotee of Bhagavan. These letters faithfully record discussions the devotees and visitors had with Bhagavan and various happenings at the Ramanasramam. Besides ‘Letters from Sri Ramanasramam’, Nagamma also wrote, ‘My Life at Sri Ramanasramam’ and ‘Letters from and Recollections of Sri Ramanasramam’. The depth of Suri Nagamma's devotion was such that the veteran devotee S.Doraiswamy Iyer called her as 'Sabari', the Ramayana character who feeds Rama with berries. Suri Nagamma’s spiritual saga here. …………………………………… Suri Nagamma’s father passed away when she was four years old, and her mother, when she was ten. When Nagamma was eleven years old, she was married. A year later her husband passed away. Left with no support except her brothers and a few other relatives, Nagamma found solace in religious discourses, devotional songs and other similar matters. Nagamma learnt to read and write with the help of her elders. She was particularly attracted to Pothana’s Bhagavatam. One day she intensely prayed that she should have a Siddha Pursha like Sage Kapila for a guru. At the end of this prayer she wept and feeling tired, fell asleep. During the sleep, she had the vision of a sage seated in padmasana and facing south with a mudra like Lord Dakshinamurti. There was a sacred aura around him. That brilliant figure sent a thrill through her body. Whenever Nagamma was reminded of that vision, she prayed that she should have the privilege of serving such a sage. In 1941, Nagamma’s elder brother travelled on a pilgrimage to the South. He visited Tiruvannamalai also and had Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi’s darshan. It occurred to him that Nagamma would be greatly benefited by having Bhagavan’s darshan. As Nagamma’s cousin was at Ramanasramam after her husband’s death, her brother decided to send her there. Nagamma entered the darshan hall, bowed before Bhagavan and sat with her head bent in the place reserved for women. After about ten minutes she lifted her head and found Bhagavan intently looking at her. His compassionate look calmed Nagamma’s mind, but she could not withstand the intensity of that look and therefore, she bent her head again. Nagamma was deeply impressed by Bhagavan and found in him a resemblance to the siddha purusha who had once came in her dream. She also saw in Bhagavan all the attributes of a Jivanmukta as described in the Yoga Vasishtam and other Vedantic books. As she observed Bhagavan every day, Nagamma felt convinced that he was the person who could dispel her ignorance and that she should surrender herself unto him. One particular day, Suri Nagamma summoned courage and wrote eight verses on Saranagati and, being shy to give them to Bhagavan personally, gave them to his attendant Madhava Swami. Bhagavan read the verses and said to Madhava Swami, “See, her name is Nagamma. These are verses on Saranagati. Paste them in the book.” Nagamma was extremely thrilled. It was then that she felt that she had found her true home and decided to stay in Tiruvannamalai permanently. Bhagavan’s grace began to flow towards Nagamma steadily watering her parched heart. She began her spiritual sadhana by following Bhagavan’s Self-enquiry. The peace of mind and contentment that had eluded her thus far was now being vouchsafed to her in Bhagavan’s powerful presence. The tendency to write poems, which was dormant in Nagamma, surfaced in the year 1943. She composed songs describing Bhagavan’s life, and these were sung before him. While walking on the hill one afternoon, Bhagavan said to his attendant Rangaswami, “See, people write saying that I am this

The Sthapathy’s mind realised that all the miraculous incidents that happened one by one are a witness to Periyava’s colossal blessings and meditated upon the Mahan with overwhelming gratitude that early morning. Isn’t our Periyava the God of Protection? It is beyond all doubt that the Bhakthi we have for such a merciful God walking amongst us, will protect us all forever, bestowing all goodness upon us and offering a life with health, wealth and prosperity. said that Periyava was ready to offer him money for the food for Sthapathy, the hotel owner said “ It’s my good fortune to feed him who is sent by Kanchi Periyava,” and served him the different variety of tiffins which was ready there. The Sthapathy after finishing the food came and stood before Periyava again. “Now tell me,” enquired the all-knowing God and the Sthapathy started telling everything that happened during the meeting. “What will happen if you break it?” The Mahan questioned him with a divine playfulness. “Any change in the temple at Tirupathi is brought about only after consulting Periyava. But now they have not disclosed this matter to Periyava. If we touch the Artha Mantapa, the Divine power of Venkatachalapathy may not be received by the masses as before. Now they might come to Periyava to inform You of their decision. At that time Periyava shouldn’t give your consent and should find a way to stop this,” requested the Sthapathy in all earnestness. Periyava, looking like the merciful saviour of mankind reassured the Sthapathy by saying “Everything will happen as per your wish, don’t worry”, and sent him back. With his mental burden lessening a bit, the Sthapathy came home from there. He had a deep sleep as he was so tired and fatigued. Suddenly he felt like someone was waking him up from his deep sleep. He woke up startled .There was no one nearby. But all his tiredness and fatigue had disappeared and a fresh drive had set into his mind. He ran towards the house of the then Chief Minister of Andhra, Sri.Brahmananda Reddy, driven by the same force. The security guard standing at the gate identified him. He asked in surprise why the Sthapathy had come so early in the morning. The Sthapathy told him that he had to see the Chief Minister very urgently. The security guard refused to let him in as he didn’t have prior appointment. Still, Tirupathi Ganapathy Sthapathy was known to all and so the official started thinking of a way to fulfill his request. “Sir, we can do one thing. The Chief Minister comes down from upstairs to have coffee exactly at 4.30. While coming down and entering the hall, if the Chief Minister’s eyes fall on you coincidentally, it won’t be a problem. Otherwise you will have to wait till morning,” said the official. The Sthapathy stood there, waiting with the hope that Periyava would certainly show some way and the Chief Minister while coming down noticed the Sthapathy at the entrance. “What Ganapathy, so early in the morning?” he enquired and asked him to come in. “Danger to Tirupathi temple,” started the Sthapathy abrubtly and went on to explain everything in detail. Anger was writ in the face of the Chief Minister after listening to the Sthapathy. He ordered to summon the Minister for religious affairs at once. “What happened at Tirupathi day before yesterday?” asked the Chief Minister.”Oh just now I’m getting ready with the file to discuss it with you,” said the Minister. “I asked only what had happened at Tirupathi,” insisted the Chief Minister angrily and the Minister for Religion described their plan in detail. “You listen to me first. Venganna jolikku pogandi,” said the Chief Minister in Telugu and emphasized clearly not to interfere in the affairs of Tirupathi Venkatachalapathy and finished the conversation only after saying emphatically that it was his strict order. “Nothing will happen in Tirupathi. You can go peacefully,” he said before sending off the Sthapathy. The Sthapathy walked out with a sigh of relief and only then did he come back to his senses. He realised absolutely that it must be some divine power which woke him up from sleep and drove him with a magnificent force, making him meet the Chief Minister so early in the morning, thus bringing about a solution to such a big problem. He could hear the holy voice of Sri Sri Sri Periyava in his mind saying,” Everything will happen as per your wish,” and a shiver went down his spine in absolute elation.

Experiences with Maha Periyava: “Everything Will Happen As Per Your Wish” Sri Maha Periyava is the incarnation of Lord Eswara Himself, who has come down in the form of a sage with the sarva lakshana of Sukhabrahma Rishi to bless us all. Though He never attempted to display His spiritual powers explicitly, innumerable miracles stand as a testimony for the power of His blessings to save the world. Such a miracle was witnessed at an event happened at Tirupathi Kshetram. It happened about fifty years ago. It is a common practice for the people of Tirupathi Tirumala Devasthanam to bring changes in the temple, to facilitate easy darshan to the devotees considering the ever increasing number. Likewise once the Public Works Department and the Devasthanam members had planned for such a change. It was customary for the people to go into the Sanctum Sanctorum and come out through the same way as they went in. Instead, if the side walls of the Artha Mandapa was removed and a way made through it, people could move to their right and left sides freely, which would reduce their difficulties in having darshan and would save time too. This was the plan to be executed by them. This plan was discussed in detail and a decision was taken to purchase a cutting machine from America at the cost of Rupees forty lakhs to execute it. Listening to all this, Sri Ganapathy Sthapathy who was present there was thoroughly upset. His face reflected the turmoil in his heart. A minister present in the hall noticed it. “Why is Sthapathy so silent? Is this arrangement okay with you?” asked the minister to the Sthapathy himself. “Shall I share my views openly?” asked the Sthapathy for which the minister nodded his agreement. The Sthapathy began to express his view.”Expert architects with a sound knowledge in Agama Sastras have constructed this temple thousands of years ago, in accordance with temple Agamas. The Artha Mandapa situated next to the Sanctum Sanctoriam is extremely sacred. It won’t be proper to demolish the side walls to make way. If it is done that way, there is a chance of the residing deity Sri Venkatachalapathy’s sanctity and power being affected. Considering all this, I request you to stop this demolishing plan,” he expressed his ideas without any fear. All the members supported the plan unanimously and therefore the Sthapathy’s view wasn’t taken into consideration. The plan was unanimously agreed upon and signatures were sought from all the members to make it official. The Sthapathy had to yield to their demand out of compulsion and had to sign too. From then on the Sthapathy’s peace of mind was totally lost. He left the place with a heavy heart. His mind was agonising over a plan to stop such a misfortunate incident from happening. At this stage he realised that no one except the Eswara Incarnate, Sri Maha Periyava could help him. The Mahan was camping at a place called Karvetu Nagar. The Sthapathy ran to Him with the realisation that Sri Periyava was the only leading light that could show him the path. It was early in the morning when he reached Karvetu Nagar. Tears were streaming down his face when he met Periyava with a heavy heart full of sorrow. It was so soothing for the Sthapathy when Periyava gestured like drawing a namam on His forehead and asked,”Are you coming from there?” (meaning Tirupathi) “Yes”, said the Sthapathy and was about to pour his heart to Periyava but He stopped him gesturing with His hand. “No need to say anything now. Go and eat something first.” If there is something better than mother’s love and care, where else can one get it except Periyava? It was as if the Mother of Love could see through the fact that the Sthapathy was suffering without taking anything for the past two days. Sri Periyava called a Mutt helper. “Take him to any hotel that is open now and ask them to feed him to his full stomach,” He instructed and sent him along. Only one hotel was open at that time and when the Mutt’s person

When Praśna Revealed Mā Dhūpchandī Devī A rare case of very different Kuladevī identification through classical Praśna Jyotiṣa Excerpt What began as a simple Praśna regarding an unknown Kuladevī slowly revealed one of the most striking Praśna magic. The Praśna pointed toward a fierce feminine deity connected with smoke, fire, red flowers, widowhood, tantra, and Śaiva traditions. Symbols such as the serpent, Palāśa tree, crying feminine form, and Jyeṣṭhā nakṣatra appeared again and again through the combinations. Even more surprising were the indications surrounding the temple, a mosque nearby, nursing homes and institutes around the area, the presence of flowing water beneath or beside the region, and a large tree associated with the shrine. When the seeker finally visited the temple of Mā Dhūpchandī Devī, identified with Dhumāvatī Devī, every major indication of the Praśna stood confirmed with remarkable accuracy. The First Indication, A Feminine Deity of Śaiva Nature The prasna began with a straightforward question. The combinations immediately leaned toward a feminine force connected with a Śaiva lineage. Agni tattva was dominant throughout the Praśna. Smoke, heat, and fierce signs appeared repeatedly through the calculations. There was nothing saumya about the indications. The deity did not appear as a gentle household form of Devī. Instead, the combinations carried an atmosphere of austerity, intensity, and something deeply Tantric in nature. Aryamā and the Śaiva combinations strengthened the presence of a Devī connected with ascetic and liminal forms of worship. Even at this early stage, the Praśna suggested a deity associated with Dhūma, fire, and spiritual severity. The Swaroopa Revealed Through Classical Slokas The second enquiry concerned the form of the deity. Here the traditional slokas became unusually vivid. । prasna.org/pra%C5%9Bna-jy…
