The #SFGiants picking up Harrison Bader for less than $11 million a year seems like a bargain, especially coming after his career high .277 average and 122 wRC+. His elite glove will be in CF on opening day (7 OAA last year) so let's see just how sustainable his 2025 was. (🧵)

Free-agent outfielder Harrison Bader in agreement with Giants on two-year contract, pending physical, source tells @TheAthletic.

Just so we are clear. An average big league SS gets around that ball and fields it routinely for an out. JP was dead last in range for MLB SS last year and should not be playing the position in the big leagues. Diving for a ball you should be fielding routinely is not a good play
Daniel Kramer@DKramer_

It won’t go for an out, but hell of an effort from J.P. Crawford going all-glove on this one -- and Cole Young, too, who was ready for the alley-oop.

Is it time to sound the alarm for Heliot Ramos? Batspeed down 3 mph since last year, 5th highest dip in the league. Flyball rate down 11.5%, groundball rate up 14% He’s slugging .276 with a putrid 56 wRC+ and an fWAR in the negatives. #SfGiants

I just don’t understand where all the barrels have gone for Heliot Ramos? Feels like he either Ks or end of the bat flares it into short LCF or a weak grounder - nothing is barreled

Yordan Alvarez is hitting .340 with an .519 wOBA. He still is underperforming his .358 xBA and .557 xwOBA. Best hitter in baseball right now.

@ButcherBoy415 @LouisAnalysis His chase rate is way down because his swing rate is down, not buying the discipline improvements just yet. I will admit he has way outplayed my expectations so far

Luis Arraez to start the season: .304/.339/.393. And: His Chase% is down to 24.6% - as low as it's been since 2022. Arraez chased more in years past, but seems to be getting back to his old approach, allowing his QoC to increase drastically. He also has +3 OAA at 2B.

@vinceschmidt9 @ESPNRittenberg @Cubs Huh? If they were training on velocity they would have more than 1 or 2 guys that throw 100. They just take chances on guys with pre existing injuries. Nothing to do with velocity chasing

Since drafting arguably the worst #1 overall pick in the last decade, the Pittsburgh Pirates have completely revamped their development, and are now 9-5, led by their electric new pitching staff that is first in MLB in average fastball velo. The Bucs are here to stay.

After 7 shutout innings with 10 K's against the Reds today, Jose Soriano has cemented himself as a Cy Young contender. His ERA through 27 innings is .33, and he's got a 22.5% K-BB rate. His .143 BABIP is certainly not sustainable, but the run he is on right now is bonkers.

I generated this graph that shows the correlation between how much you CUT your 4-seam fastball and how hard it is. While I thought being a supinator (Cutting the ball more at release) would lead to slower velo, there is actually almost zero correlation between the two factors.

I’m losing my mind right now. @BallByBoston continues to tell me that Luis Arráez is not good. He is off to an awesome start! Am I wrong? Please knock some sense into this kid!

@ButcherBoy415 @mattnahigian Sub .300 OBP. He’s slugging .354 right now. Walking half as much as last year while striking out twice as much. Obviously small sample size but he has been well below average offensively

Gave the Over Slot simulator a shot, really fun tool. I'm all over Vahn Lackey at #4, massive pullside power and a stellar athlete who I think sticks behind the plate. Couldn't pass up on the raw tools of Waechter and Gasparino. Then went heavy on college arms to highlight some guys I'm high on.

I made a vertical approach angle leaderboard from the statcast data of the Low-A Florida State League (with a little assistance from Claude) and there are some interesting arms all over. Andrew Sears sticks out especially, funky lefty in the Tigers system with some gross stuff.

That has to be the worst challenge all year from Arraez. Both the location of the pitch and the context of the game (with score and leverage) that was the most hilarious challenge I’ve seen so far.
