Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. You can’t win on talent alone. You must have discipline and a strong work ethic. Must have a humble, yet confident, mindset. These are daily choices of how you show up. Talent is great, but what you do with that talent is what really matters.

Finish empty every day. Show up. Give your best. Strive to be the best you that you can be. Live with no regrets. Have to know your “why.” You can’t drift to a desired destination. Your why is what drives you. Live with “Kaizen” — commitment to continuous improvement. Be honest with yourself, but be fearless! Don’t be afraid to fail. Understand that you either do/win or you learn. Strive to be better. Ask yourself, “Is there a better way to do this?” Don’t get stuck doing something because you’ve always done it that way. Find the best way and give your all. Be 1% better everyday!

Dare to be different. Be a 1%er. Do things differently. Be creative. Adhere to your uniqueness. You were uniquely & wonderfully made & created by the Almighty God, in His image. Be confident in your uniqueness. How do you expect others to bet on you if you don’t bet on yourself? Dream big, chase the lion, refuse to be average, refuse to be stopped.

To be great you have to work to be great everyday. Can’t get bored with the details or daily routines. Must show you and push your limits in every single task. Iron sharpens iron. It’s not sharpened by ease or softness. It’s sharpened by being worked against something just as sharp. Going through the motions won’t get you better, it’ll get you behind. Show up and be great every day.

Could talk a lot about this one. First thing that comes to mind is “if you don’t stand for anything, you’ll fall for everything.” Leaders must stand for what is right. Do what’s best for your people. Stand for those who can’t stand for themselves. Call others up and pull them with you along the journey. Must be willing to be accountable and hold others accountable. Accountability = “we do what we say we will do.” Hold the standard. Do what’s best for the most. Be courageous to stand even when it’s tough. Be confident and solid in your convictions. Everyone may not agree, and there will always be some pushback, but you can rest knowing you did the best for the most and stood strong for what you believe in.

Always hold the standard. You must rise to the standard, and call others to rise to it as well. The standard never changes. How you do anything is how you do everything. You get what you allow. The little things matter, and you must realize & get others to understand that everything matters. Lead by example. Hold others accountable to the standard. Leave things better than you found them. #RTTS

1) See the gaps (Vision) 2) Develop a plan 3) Attack the gaps (Relentless Effort & Execution) Close the gaps everyday. Find the little areas to attack. See what people can be and help them to see it and believe it. Always ask, “what can we do better?” Bridge the gap between reality & potential.

The journey is always better than the result. At the end of a season, it’s not the end result that is special, it’s the journey of the season that’s truly special. I’ve been to the State Semi-Finals and I’ve been 0fer, and everything in between. When I reflect back, it’s the journey of the season, a year-long process for a guaranteed 10 games, from January to January, that is fulfilling and full of lessons. The real prize isn’t how you finished or what you accomplished, but who you become along the way. It’s the development of people, the memories made, the relationships built, and much more. That’s what it’s truly about. I like the definition of success by Teddy Roosevelt…Success is “doing the best you can, with what you have, where you’re at.” While everyone in our culture wants to focus on wins and trophies and the end result, choose to be different. Choose to focus on the journey. Focus on the process of becoming great. Learn to enjoy the process because that’s what you’ll truly remember; that’s what will ultimately shape you.

I’ll be honest… I have struggled/do struggle with every single one of these. It’s hard, especially in this profession, not to compare yourself to others or to strive for that next goal/position/step. Must remember, and practice, being satisfied internally, instead of focusing on outside circumstances you can’t control. Be fulfilled by the work you do & the impact you make, exactly where you are at, and don’t compare your journey or impact to others. Great insight here @julie4nier!!

Going through the motions doesn’t get you better—it doesn’t push you. You have to have a plan and a purpose. Don’t just do something to do it. Be intentional about every task, rep, drill, book you read, etc. — whatever it may be, be intentional about it and commit fully to that moment to improve. Quality > Quantity every time. Fewer intentional, all out reps makes more progress than more, half-hearted reps. Be intentional. Have a plan and a purpose. Choose quality over quantity. Commit to making progress every time.

The great leaders know that you must continuously learn and improve. They know that they have to surround themselves with people that are smarter than them, and stronger in areas they are weaker. They understand that knowledge & preparation prevents poor performance, and that they can rest in the confidence of the process & their preparation. Knowledge/Experience —> Confidence —> Relaxation —> Results You rise to the level of your training! Rise to the standard!

At this point in the season, no one is 100% healthy, but you can still give 100% of what’s in the tank. Capacity varies. Commitment doesn’t. #BecomingaPro

Showing up is 1/2 the battle. Keep showing up. Keep stacking days. It will compound into something big overtime. Small steps forward, that 1% better, will get you down the path of progress.
