From school vouchers to minimum wage to paid sick leave and abortion rights, voters in red states like Missouri, Kentucky & Nebraska showed a path forward with ballot measures @BallotStrategy

🗳️ Nebraskans overwhelmingly voted to stand with workers by passing #PaidSickLeave in the state. An estimated 250,000 Nebraskans who currently lack paid sick days can now earn one hour of leave for every thirty hours they work — and be protected from retaliation for using it.

🗳️ In Arizona, voters have rejected a ballot measure that would have allowed for tipped workers to be paid 25% less than minimum wage. 🗳️ Missouri voters passed Prop. A, which will increase the minimum wage to $15 by 2026 and guarantee paid sick leave to workers.

We know this is a difficult week for our community. Given what's happening nationally, BISC is here to share updates about the hard-fought wins made possible by grassroots groups across the country. In the fight for economic justice, we saw wins in Arizona, Nebraska, & Missouri:

As our partners at @Yes4Florida said: "A substantial majority of voters reject Florida's abortion ban—sending a clear message to politicians to take legislative action & end this extreme ban. We stand ready to hold our public officials accountable to the will of the people."

We are also sending love to our community in Florida, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Reproductive freedom advocates in these states worked tirelessly to demand more for their people, and although these measures did not pass this time around, the fight is far from over.

Right now the reforms that our communities need are getting consistently halted at the federal level, so we must keep laser-focused on building state-based, people-based power. These are the systems that will lead the progressive movement forward.

Last night, historic ballot measures enshrining the right to #ReproductiveFreedom passed in seven states: Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Montana, Maryland, New York, and Missouri. (1/5)

We hope these hard-fought, lifesaving victories will be an important reminder to us all that despite this time of uncertainty, all hope is not lost. People-powered movements are how progress will be made.

Seven of 10 ballot measures to protect abortion rights passed this year. @Fieldsy of @ballotstrategy says organizers across the U.S. — especially in Republican-dominated states — have adopted such votes as a strategy to get around gerrymandering and other barriers.

It took two years, two successful petition drives, and 200,000+ signatures from Nebraskans to ensure voters could decide at the ballot box whether they support giving public funds to private schools. The answer – for the fourth time in the state’s electoral history – is NO.

We did it! Arizona has overwhelmingly voted to protect abortion access! We proved, yet again, that Arizona is a state that values freedom and individual rights. Thank you to the thousands of voters, volunteers, and donors— this victory belongs to you.
